Purpose :-

 Reduction in the emergence of resistant


strain.

 Check indiscriminate use of antibiotics.

 Guide the clinicians towards its rational use.


Department of MICROBIOLOGY had developed
an ANTIBIOGRAM -

• This served as the basic framework to


formulate an Antibiotic Policy - 2012

 Reduction in misuse of Antibiotics.


 Reduction in Development of Drug Resistance.
 Reduction in Side Effects of Drugs.
 Reduction in Cost of Treatment.
 Reduction in Morbidity / Mortality.

Unusual long stay , Complications , Unexpected


Results.
 Targeted Action Plan in areas related to –

1. High Incidence of HAI and Drug Resistance.

2. Prescription pattern in persistent violation of the


laid-down Antibiotic Policy

- regular feedback about-A/B usage.

-incidence of A/B resistance and HAI rate.

-educating the concerned clinicians to follow A/B policy in


letter and spirit.
• Motivating the clinician to prescribe the
second or third line drugs after consulting
their peer group-

recording the justification/reasons in the


case record.
Issuance of a pocket-sized A/B formulary-

 Guidelines on selection of A/B for empirical


and targeted therapy of major infections.

 First and Second line therapy of common


infections.
