LESSON 1: BAPTISM
• What is Baptism?
• Baptism is “getting right with God”, part of the outward
sign of accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and
personal Savior.
• Baptism came from the Greek word Baptizo which
means, “to dip, immerse; to cleanse or purify by
washing”.
• It is one of the church ordinances that Christians
practice.
• Why should we be baptized?
• The word Baptism first appeared from the book of
Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John). In the bible
the famous person we know that practice it was John
the Baptist. He was the one appointed by God to
prepare the way of Jesus Christ (John 3:22-36).
• Because, Jesus Christ (1) commanded it (Matthew
28:19-20), we (2) Love God (John 14:15) and by doing
it (3) we are partaking the Death, Burial and
Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.
• Who should be baptized?
• The believers, meaning the person who accepted Jesus
Christ as his/ her own personal savior and fully
understand what it means to be a Christian and
practices it in a daily basis.
• A true believer as God’s child, must obey God’s
command to receive water baptism. By this public
confession he is known to the world as a believer: that
he is not ashamed to confess Christ before men.
• What is the symbolical meaning of Baptism?
• Death- Death to old way of life.
• Burial- Burial our old life/ nature.
• Resurrection- new life with Christ (Romans 6:1-6).
• (Colossians 2:12; Romans 6:4)
• What is the proper method of Baptism?
• Some group practices pouring of water on the head or
sprinkling of water, however this is not the right
method, since the early church followed the right
method which is immersion (Mark 1:9-11).
• We have mentioned a while ago that Baptism came
from a Greek word that literally means to dip or
immerse.
• Essentials of Baptism:
• Must be born again- the person is mature and accepted the
complete truth that Jesus Christ died for him/ her and that
Jesus Christ is the only way to be saved. After salvation he or
she practicing God’s word daily.
• Saved adult who can say “I believe that the Lord Jesus
Christ is the Son of God”.
• Have completely understand what it means to be a true
Christian.
• Right motive- not because you want to show off or because
other Christians are doing it.
• Personal decision- meaning, you shouldn’t be forced by
someone to be baptized.
• Wrong beliefs about baptism
• Infant Baptism (Jesus Christ, Disciples and Centurion)
Acts 8:37
• Baptism can save (John 14:6)
• Baptism removes our sins
• The moment you got saved you should be baptized
right away.
• Summary:
• Baptism is a ceremony where a person is immersed in
water. It is a public identification with Christ where the
person proclaims his faith in Christ and commits to
being a disciple of Jesus. Baptism does not save a
person from sins. It is a covenant sign (Col. 2:12-13).
LESSON 3: SPIRITUAL GIFTS
