Why uwb monopole antenna?
UWB has an enormous bandwidth operating in the frequency range
from 3.1 to 10.6 Ghz.
A compact UWB printed monopole antenna with high band rejection
tunable over a broad range of frequencies from 3.55 GHz to 6.8 Ghz
Objective
• To suppress frequency band which is affected by an electromagnetic
interference
• To achieve wide radiation patterns.
Why notch filter is used?
Notch filter is used to reject an interference occurring in a single
frequency band.
How to design a notch filter in
antenna?
After designing , a slot is Created on the radiating patch.

 If only one slot (T-Shaped,I-Shaped,U-shaped,C-shaped slot) is

designed over the radiating patch it is called single notch frequency
band.

If two slots is designed over the radiating patch it is called double
notch frequency band.

Here, the substrate used is called Rogers 4003 with a size of 28 x 30 mm. In ground plane
the substrate used is fr4 substrate with a size of 13.5 x 30mm. The advantages of using
Rogers 4003 substrate: (i) a wide radiation pattern is achieved (ii) the beam is highly
directional. (iii) radiation losses can be reduced.

Overall design
Output-1: S-parameter
Contd…
S-parameter is also known as reflection coefficient. Here S 1,1
represents the former 1 is output port and latter 1 represents the input
port. Hence only one port is used in this design. At 6.8 GHz, the
interference is affected.
This can be suppressed by using notch filter according to design
specifications. Below 6.8 GHz the wave is in oscillating mode and the
above 6.8 GHz it is in oscillating mode and standing waves. Here X-
axis represents the frequency(GHz) and Y-axis represents S-parameter.
Output-2: VSWR
Contd….
• VSWR represents the Voltage Standing Wave Ratio. VSWR
represents the ration of Voltage maximum to the Voltage minimum.
VSWR describes the characteristics of an antenna. VSWR should
decreases with respect to frequency.
• As VSWR < 2, then the antenna is efficient antenna. Here X-axis
represents the frequency(GHz) and Y-axis represents the VSWR. In
this VSWR 1 represents the VSWR measurement for the port 1
Output-3: Power Accepted
Contd…..
• Here X- axis represents the frequency (GHz) and Y-axis represents the
Power (watts). Power increases as frequency increases. At 6.8 GHz,
the power accepted is 0.5
Output-4: Power Radiated
Contd….
• Here X-axis represents the frequency (GHz) and Y-axis represents power (watts).
When the transmitter gives power to the antenna, some of the power is radiated
and remaining power is transmitted to the receiver. Here the power radiated is
0.468 at 6.8 GHz.
Output-5: Farfield
