• The “Catalog” is a repository that contains all your


reporting objects such as analysis, dashboards and saved
filters. Its structure is like a file system.

• From the “Catalog” screen you can manage


administration functions for your reporting objects such
as:
• Set permissions
• Delete
• Copy / Move
• Rename
• Archive

Migrating Analyses

• Sometimes you need to move some analysis or send someone


a copy of your analysis. For this propose, you can copy the
entire Analysis’ XML definition on the “Advanced” tab within

• There are some steps to copy an Analysis via XML:


1. Copy the entire “Analysis XML” from the “Advanced” tab.
2. Open up an empty analysis.
3. On the “Advanced” tab, replace the entire Analysis XML with your
copied XML.
4. Click on “Apply XML”.
5. Preview the results and save.

You need to
click “Apply
XML” to save
the changes.

Migrating Analyses – Further Notes

• If you ever send the Analysis XML to someone else, make sure
you copy it into a plain text file (e.g. Notepad) rather than
pasting it directly into an email body.

• Within the Catalog, there are two main Folders:

My Folders
• Only the individual user has access to their “My Folders”
area. Note that even a Presentation Services Administrator
cannot view someone else’s “My Folders” area from with the
BI front-end (unless explicit permission is granted)

Shared Folders
• The shared area containing folders with various access
permissions
• Shared folders are sometimes created for each Power
User, so that they can easily build and share their BI
Dashboards/Reports with other users

Permissions - Accessing Security Permissions

• To manage the security settings of catalog objects, click on


an object’s “More > Permissions” menu option:

There are 5 levels of access possible for the Objects:

No Access
• Permission denied – this takes preference over everything else
Open
• Read-access only (you can run a report but cannot make changes to it)
Modify
• You can change or delete an object, but you cannot create an object or change
its permissions
Full Control
• Unrestricted access
Custom
• In the Custom access you can define the permission to grant.

• When applying security permissions to a “folder” you have


options for applying the permissions also to all objects within
the folder and also to all its sub-folders:
