Field Service Lifecycle
Work Orders
• The Work Order entity contains the details of the job that
needs to be completed, such as work order type, status,
duration, and priority.
• Service Agreements automatically generate recurring work
orders. A service agreement can be associated with one service
account. That means that all work orders that are generated as
part of a service agreement are associated with that service
account
• Work Order Incidents are a defined package of recommended
service tasks, products, services, and characteristics, or skills,
that makes creating a work order faster.
• Time and Resource Preferences, which specify when a work
order should be completed to meet a service agreement.
Resources
• D365 Field Service (D365 FS), resources are the
individuals, equipment, vehicles, or facilities
required to complete work orders.
• Resource Characteristics is used to add skills
and certification for specific tasks.
• Skill level proficiency can also be defined for the
resource with a rating.
• A resource can be categorized on the basis of a
specific category for easy selection.
• Work Hours allocation and specific location can
also be assigned.
Scheduling
• Scheduling in D365 Field Service is a critical
process that ensures the right resources
(technicians, equipment, vehicles) are
assigned to the right tasks (work orders) at
the right time.
• A few methods by which resources can be
booked for a work order are-
• Manually -Dispatchers manually assign work
orders using the schedule board.
• Semi – Automated - Suggests suitable
resources using the Find Availability feature.
• Automated (RSO- Resource Scheduling
Optimization)
Inventory Tracking
• Inventory Tracking in D365 Field Service is
the process of managing and monitoring
the stock of materials, parts, and supplies
used to perform field service tasks.
• Inventory Locations can be defined as
physical places such as stores, warehouses
or vehicles.
• Inventory items are defined as the
products which are used in the service
work.
• Adjustments and transfers can also be
tracked between warehouses.
