CAPABILITIES OF LIMS 5
Sample Management
-The core functionality of a LIMS
-LIMS sample manager provides accurate records of each sample,
from the moment it is received in the lab and throughout its life
cycle.
-A LIMS stores crucial sample information , such as expiration
date, storage conditions, researcher names, and the sample
source, helping prevent expiration, contamination, and loss.
-It also allows tracking of sample location, down to the
specific freezer, shelf, or box
CAPABILITIES OF LIMS 6
Instrument Integration
-Is a functionality that provides increased integration with lab
instruments.
-The LIMS can insert control files into a particular instrument and
direct its functioning.
-Data integration enhances secure data management tailored to lab-
specific needs, speeds up data processing and reporting, and enables
safe access to data from various instruments.
-The LIMS can also import instrument result files and use extracted
data for quality control assessment.
CAPABILITIES OF LIMS 7
Procedure Execution
-The LIMS has full control over procedure execution. It is in
control of LIMS procedures, SOP's, and methods used in the
lab.
-It provides step-by-step process configuration for lab
technologists, ensuring clear guidance and allows real-time
data access through continuous integration.
CAPABILITIES OF LIMS 8
Data Management
-The growing volume of data created in laboratories has resulted
in the integration of effective data management into the LIMS.
-LIMS Facilitates effective data management and archiving in labs.
-The LIMS archives raw data and standardized XML files, easily restored
when needed. Enables migration of archive files across mediums,
essential for long-term data storage.
-The LIMS Supports paperless operations, reducing document
handling, approval time, and costs while increasing data efficiency
and consistency.

LIMS BASICS: HOW DOES LIMS WORK?
5. Customer Relationship Management
- Stores and handles demographic information about
the clients.
- Streamlines and facilitates communication with
associated
clients.
6. Document Management
- Various types of data are collected and stored.
- Create, manage, import, and export different kinds of
data.

- Schedule important maintenance actions and
calibrations of lab instruments.
- Stores detailed records of activities and
allows lab

Lowering TATS (Lab Turnaround Times) should also be a central feature of your
types of LIMS systems. Take care to select a system that places an importance
on optimizing laboratory KPls. Systems should ideally curtail TATs as a
determinant of productivity.

The ultimate aim of a LIMS is to enhance efficiency in laboratory operations by reducing manual procedures.
The core components of LIMS are electronic laboratory notebooks, sample management programs, process
execution software, records management software, applications interface, workflow tools, client tracking, best
practice and compliance databases, and ERP software.
The US Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) released an Occupational Exposure to
Hazardous Chemicals in Laboratories Standard (29 CFR 1910.1450) in 2011 to facilitate laboratory safety.
LIMS covers registration, billing, contract management, and monitoring of accounts receivable.
LIMS assists laboratories in setting priorities of current workloads based on the availability of analysts and
instruments.
LIMS's functions enable users to set standards for the relevant range of patient test results or to extract test
result information for the purpose of quality assurance .
LIMS modules are commonly linked to a barcoding label generator, enabling a fast easy method of identifying
tubes, samples, documents, and many others. The label can simply be printed on a sticker and be placed on any
item which needs identification.
A bi-directional interface application saves time in programming test orders into the analyzer and eliminates
