RECREATION & TEAM BUILDING
Recreation - refreshment of strength and spirits after work; a way of enjoying yourself when
you are not working.
- is an activity of leisure, leisure being discretionary time. Recreational activities
are often done for enjoyment, amusement, or pleasure and are considered to be "
fun".
- The term recreation appears to have been used in English first in the late 14th
century, first in the sense of "refreshment or curing of a sick person.
Team Building - the action or process of causing a group of people to work together effectively
as a team, especially by means of activities and events designed to increase
motivation and promote cooperation.
- Is a management technique used for improving the efficiency and performance of the
workgroups through various activities. It involves a lot of skills, analysis and
observation for forming a strong and capable team. The whole sole motive here is to
achieve the organization's vision and objectives.
Four Theories on Leisure
● 1. Leisure as time – Defining
leisure as time suggests that
life can be divided into
segments according to use.
Leisure is regarded as
discretionary time, as
distinguished from spent
working or sustaining
existence.
● Leisure has one and only
one essential criterion,
and that is the condition
of perceived freedom.
Any activity carried out
freely without constraint
or compulsion, may be
considered to be leisure.
● 3. Leisure is an activity – This
approach is defining leisure
suggest that leisure can be
identified by viewing the non-
work activities that on the
participants in that are associated
with leisure experience is limited
to a select number of activities,
such as reading, swimming,
walking for pleasure, traveling and
so forth.
● 4. Leisure as a holistic model –
The holistic model of leisure
suggests that all one’s life
experiences have the potential
for leisure. Especially
important in this definition is
the supposition that work and
leisure values can be fused and
satisfying life experiences may
be derived from either.
