SARA SAFETY WEEK

BULAWAYO 2020
THEME: SAFETY STARTS WITH ME. STOP, LOOK,LISTEN AND SAVE
LIVES.

ACTIVITIES LINED UP FOR COMMEMORATIONS:


 Rail/ road level crossing awareness campaign at RMS
 Trespassing campaign at BLR and MPO yards
 Safety campaigns to shunters, drivers and signalmen.

STAKEHOLDERS
Internal- Safety, Traffic, Security, Signals and Public Relations.
External- Zimbabwe Republic Police and Traffic Safety Council of
Zimbabwe.

driver.
 Train crews encouraged to observe safety all the time.

Team advising the SLI to alert train crews on:


• Observing train working regulations.
• Watching out for kick outs and wash-aways this season.
• Reporting any unsafe conditions observed during their trips.

OBSERVATIONS

 RMS rail/ road is quite busy.


 Members of the public raised concern on the Cowdray park level crossing.
 They also raised concern over poor unhygienic state of passenger trains.
 Motorists flout road rules at level crossing especially public service
vehicles(commuter omnibuses and (conventional buses)
 ZRP mounted a road block soon after the campaign and ticketed s number of
public service vehicles.
 Level crossing is poorly maintained by both bcc and NRZ as it is littered with
potholes and unstable slabs.
 Perimeter fencing around NRZ premises is in bad shape that allows trespassing
by members of the public.
