Spirometer

A spirometer is a device used to measure lung function by analyzing airflow in and out of the lungs. It produces a spirogram, a graphic representation of respiratory movements. Spirometry tests are used to diagnose lung conditions like COPD, asthma, and pulmonary fibrosis by identifying obstructive or restrictive lung diseases that cause shortness of breath. Proper preparation, such as not eating a heavy meal and abstaining from smoking beforehand, is important for accurate spirometry results.

What is a Spirometer?

A spirometer is a device which is used to measure the flow of breath in and out of the lungs.

Spirogram a graphic record of respiratory movements

Why would I need a spirometry test?

This test is used to determine the cause of shortness of breath, to rule out any kind of obstructive disease that blocks breathing, or restrictive disease that limits the expansion and capacity of the lungs.

Common LungProblems
chronic bronchitis emphysema pulmonary fibrosis chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) asthma

How should I prepare for spirometry?

Do not eat a heavy meal before spirometry testing Refrain from smoking for 4 to 6 hours before the test Empty your bladder right before testing

Sensing Stage The sensing stage is formed by a flow transducer type pneumotachograph and differential pressure sensor.

Signal Conditioning Stage Because the pressure differences are very low and hence the output voltage is very small, we need a signal conditioning stage
