CUSTOMISING PRESENTATIONS

CREATE A CUSTOM LAYOUT
Concepts
Slide layouts contain formatting, positioning, and placeholders for all of the content that appears on
a slide.
You can make a new custom layout from the default layout.
Custom layout specifies the number, size, and location of placeholders, background content, theme
colours, fonts, and effects.
It is reusable and saves time when producing slides.

Steps
• Create a new blank Presentation and select the VIEW tab.
• Select the Slide Master button in the Master Views group.
• Select the Slide Layout you wish to edit from the Slide Master Layout pane.
• Select the Insert Placeholder drop down arrow in the Master Layout group.

CREATE A CUSTOM LAYOUT
• Select the text placeholder.
• Position the crosshair pointer where you want the placeholder to be and drag
diagonally down and right to the required size, then release the mouse button.
• Select the SLIDE MASTER tab and enter Details Layout as the new name for
your customised layout.
• Select the Rename button.
• Select the VIEW tab.
• Select the Normal button from the Presentation Views group.
• Select the HOME tab and Select the New Slide drop down arrow in the Slides
group.
• Select the newly created Details Layout.

Steps

• Select the DESIGN tab.

• Select the desired theme from the Themes gallery like Facet.

• Select the DESIGN tab.

• Select the More drop down arrow in the Variants group.

• Select Background Styles.

• Click on Style 10 from the list as the desired Background Style.

SAVE A CUSTOM THEME
Steps

• Select the DESIGN tab.

• Select the More drop down arrow in the Themes group.

• Select Save Current Theme…

• Type personal as the desired name for the theme.

• Click the Save button to save the template.

Practice

• Open Themes.pptx file and select the DESIGN tab.

• Expand the Themes gallery with the More drop down arrow and apply
the personal theme to the whole presentation.

To modify the theme:

• Open the Themes.pptx file and select the DESIGN tab. From Variants
group, select more options, Colors, Select Blue Warm and Click Save.

CREATE A NEW TEMPLATE, THEME
Concepts
• A template is a file containing formatting and content such as logo, text,
background formatting, headers and footers.
• It can be applied to presentations when needed.
• A theme contains colours, fonts and effects.
• The best way to create a new theme is to edit one of the predesigned themes
supplied with the presentation program.

CREATE A NEW TEMPLATE
Steps
• Open a blank presentation and select the VIEW tab.
• Select the Slide Master button in the Master Views group.
• Select Themes and choose a theme from the displayed gallery. Choose Facet
• Select Background Styles and choose a background. Choose Style 2
• Select the slide master or a slide layout to add a placeholder. Select Insert
Placeholder from the Master Layout group. Select a placeholder type and
Resize and position the Placeholder.
• Select Slide Size from the Size group and choose Custom Slide Size to
choose a page orientation, portrait or landscape, for all the slides.
• On the FILE tab select Save As name the file Sample.potx and save as a
PowerPoint Template.
• To use the template for a new presentation select New from the FILE tab.
Select Personal and choose the template, Sample.

Steps

• Select the VIEW tab and select the Slide Master button in the Master Views group.

• Select the Colors button from the Background group in the SLIDEMASTER tab.

• Select Customize Colors to display the Create New Theme Colors dialog.

• Under Theme colors, choose a theme colour element and click on the colour box beside it.

• Enter a name in the Name box for the theme colours that you choose and save.

• To change theme fonts select Fonts from the Background group.

• Select Customize Fonts and create New

• Under Heading font and Body font, select Arial.

• In the Name box, type Myfonts as the name for the new theme fonts.

• To Save your theme, select Themes from the Edit Theme group and select Save Current Theme.

• Type Mytheme as the name for the theme in the File Name box and click Save.

Concepts

A template can be modified and saved to overwrite the original template, or saved
under a new name to give a separate template.

Steps

• Open Sample.potx.

• Make changes to the template such as, change themes, background colour and
fonts.

• Save the template.

A theme can be modified and saved in normal view or slide master view.

Modify a theme
Steps
• In slide master view, select Themes in the edit Theme group and Select Mytheme
as the theme to be modified.
• Click Font, then click Edit.
• Change the body font to Times New Roman.
• Save using original name and location or save as a different theme using a
different name.
