INTRODUCTION
Core-shell nanoparticles are a class of nanoparticles that consist of a core material
surrounded by a shell material.
The core and shell materials can be made of different materials, such as metals,
semiconductors, or polymers.
The unique properties of core-shell nanoparticles arise from the combination of the core
and shell materials, which can exhibit synergistic effects.
Zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles have been extensively explored for their catalytic,
optical, and electrical properties. However, their bare surfaces often suffer from
aggregation, photodegradation, and reduced catalytic activity. To address these
limitations, embedding ZnO nanoparticles within a silica (SiO2) shell has emerged as a
promising strategy. The SiO2 shell not only stabilizes the ZnO core but also enhances its
catalytic activity and durability.
IDENTIFICATION OF PROBLEM
A base paper for this project could be one that covers the synthesis and
applications of ZnO/SiO2 core-shell nanoparticles, the sol-gel process for
nanoparticle synthesis, and the use of photo-sonocatalysis in catalysis

materials to form a core-shell structure.
2. Sputtering: Involves bombarding a target material with high-energy ions to
deposit a thin film on a substrate.
3. Electroplating: Involves depositing a thin film of a material on a conductive
substrate using an electric current.
