Midline Theorem

The document outlines a lesson plan on the Midline Theorem, which states that the segment connecting the midpoints of two sides of a triangle is parallel to the third side and half its length. It includes an activity where students create a triangle, find midpoints, and reconnect the triangle to explore the theorem. Additionally, it provides processing questions and an assignment for students to apply their understanding of the theorem through problem-solving.

At the end of this lesson students will be
able to:

• Solve problems using Midline Theorem

Midline Theorem
Activity
Steps
1. Using your scissors, cut a triangle out
of your colored paper.
2. Now, choose a side of that triangle and
give it a mark.
3. For the remaining two sides, find the
midpoint of each side and mark those
midpoints.
Activity
Steps
4. Now, connect the two midpoints
together.
5. Measure the line segment of the two
midpoints that you have formed and
the side of the triangle parallel to it.
6. Cut the line segment from the
connected midpoints.
Activity
Steps
7. Using adhesive tape, reconnect the
triangle with the other figure in such a
way that their common vertex was a
midpoint and that congruent segments
formed by a midpoint coincide”
Processing Questions:
1.After reconnecting the cutouts, what new
figure is formed?
2.What conjecture or conclusion can you make
to justify the new figure formed after doing
the activity?
3.What can you say about your findings in
relation to those of your classmates?
4.Do you think that the findings apply to all
kinds of triangles?
