Republic Act 11476, signed by President Duterte,
restores subjects on good manners, right conduct,
and values education to youth. The law replaces
Good Manners and Right Conduct with Edukasyon
sa Pagkakatao (EsP), which is integrated into daily
activities in kindergarten and Grades 1 to 6. The
DECS Values Education Program, introduced in
1998, emphasized social reform through inner
transformation of individuals. The K to 12
Curriculum now includes EsP, with the goal of
fostering a child's moral growth and ethical
behavior.
The Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao (ESP) course
aims to teach children to think critically and
ethically, requiring them to develop five key
skills: macro skills, leadership, problem-solving,
communication, and critical thinking. EsP also
aims to foster students' lifelong learning and
their role in the Filipino society, promoting their
understanding of values, ethics, and respect.

those you interact with, and also
commands respect from those

ourselves well-mannerd persons. Treating everyone
with kindness and respect will not only make them
happy but will als gain that same kindness and
respect for you.

PHILOSOPHY of
GMRC/ VALUES
EDUCATION/
EDUKASYON SA
PAGPAPAKATAO
The philosophy of Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao (ESP) as
a subject is heighted by the urgent need to strengthen
the moral fiber of the society. the Department of
Education, Culture and Sports introduced the DECS
Values of Education Program in 1998 emphasizing social
reform through the inner transformation of the
individual that was in support of Pres. Corazon Aquino's
1988 Moral Recovery Program.
The Department of Education, Culture and Sports introduced
The DECS Values of Education Program in 1988.
• The program found a strong support in the Philippine constitution of
1987 in its vision of "Just and Humane society" which calls for a
shared culture and commonly held values such as "truth, justice,
freedom, love, equality and peace".
• The organization aims to promote values education at all
educational levels, fostering human development and fostering a
just, humane, independent, and democratic nation.

5. Manifest in actual life an abiding faith inn God as a

reflection of the spiritual being.
Guiding Principles in
Teaching EsP/ GMRC
1. Values are both taught and
caught. The ESP teacher must teach
the cognitive aspect of virtue
intentionally and must live to;

2. Values cannot be separated from

understanding although values and
attitudes relate to the affective
dimension;
3. At young age, a child may not yet be
capable of understanding his/her true
personhood but can be taught to lead a
virtuous life that early for him to develop
good character.
The book of proverbs states "Train up a child
in the way he should go, even when he is
old he will not depart from it." (Proverbs
22.6);

4. Values Education is about developing

virtues, good habits, and dispositions which
had students to responsible and mature
adulthood.
5. Values Education is concerned with relationships; Personhood
is rooted in relationships. We develop our personhood in
relationship with others.

6. An effective Values Education takes place in an atmosphere of

respect, tolerance and genuine understanding. The ESP teacher
shares and offers his/her value system with the students or
students also share their value systems in class without imposing
them on others.
