• We have to revise grammar forms and uses.
What are grammatical forms?
We can identify grammatical forms in parts of speech,
grammatical structures and words that contain prefixes and suffixes. Nine parts of speech in English • Nouns • Verbs • Adjectives • Adverbs • Determiners • Prepositions • Pronouns • Conjunctions • Exclamations We also see different grammatical forms in a grammatical structure. • Past continuous: subject + past tense of verb to be + - ing form of verb e.g. he was running
• Passive voice: subject + to be + past participle (+by
+agent) e.g. the road was built (by the company) What are grammatical uses?
Grammatical uses refer to how grammatical
structures are used to convey (or communicate) meaning. Many grammatical forms have more than one use. Here are some examples: Present Simple: • To describe a present state. E.g. I live in London. • To describe actions or situations….. • To refer to the future….. • To tell a story Follow up activities Reflection Think about these teachers’ comments.
