Universal Gate

A universal gate is a logic gate which can implement any Boolean function without the need

to use any other type of logic gate. The NOR gate and NAND gate are universal gates. This

means that you can create any logical Boolean expression using only NOR gates or only NAND

gates.
Why NAND & NOR gates are called universal gates?
The OR, AND, and NOT are the three basic logic gates as they together can construct the logic circuit for
any given Boolean expression. NOR and NAND gates have the property that they individually can be
used to hardware-implement any logic circuit. For this reason, the NAND and NOR gates are called
universal gates.
