 Concept maps are
developed by Joseph D
Novak in 1960.
 It is a diagram that
shows suggested
relationships between
concepts.
 It is in the form of
Charts, Tables,
Flowcharts,
Vendiagrams,
Timelines or T-
Charts.
DEFINITION
• A Concept map is a
Visual
representation of
ideas and their
relationships.
• It is usually a diagram or
graphic that includes
ideas shown in boxes
or circles.
• The ideas are then related
to each other through
linkages.
MAKING CONCEPT MAPS
Steps to make a Concept map:
1. Identify a Concept.
2. Write down Subordinate
Concepts.
3. Go through lecture notes,
reading and any other resources
you have to fill any gaps.
4. Focus on how concepts are
related to each other.
5. Elaborate each part of the map.

unified theme.
HIERARCHICAL OR CHRONOLOGICAL MAP
Most general data is located
at the top and moves to the
most specific.
FLOW CHART
Information is organised in a
logical, ordered manner.
SYSTEMS MAP
It includes all data on the map and
shows many relationships between
the data.
USES OF CONCEPT MAPS
Used to stimulate the generation of ideas.

Sometimes used for Brain-Storming.

Used to Communicate Complex ideas and

arguments.
Widely used in Education and Business.

Used to Improve Language Ability.

Used to Enhance Meta Cognition

( Learning to learn and thinking about


knowledge ).
