Covering Documents

Transmittals, Memos, Emails

Covering Documents
• Assignment 1 Email “covers” the letter
• Assignment 2 none: the Email Proposal is the whole document: first
introductory sentences/paragraph introduce the proposal
• Assignment 3 Transmittal: “releases” the Internal Formal Report
(introduces + briefly explains the topic, issue, and recommendations)
• Transmittals are generally a fraction of the length of the documents they
cover
• Email with “attachment”
• Submit Assignment 1 as a single Word file (not a
PDF)
• In the message to Arshdeep state that you have “attached”
the revised letter to Mr. Morley, but (in reality) create a
Assignment page break between the message to Arshdeep and Mr.
Morley
1 • i.e.,
• Page 1: message to Arshdeep
• Beak (ctrl + enter)
• Page 2: letter to Mr. Morley
• Email with “attachment”
• All emails explain the attachment: subject, reason, and
notable element(s)
• This email is more extensive than most covering
documents
• Notable elements discussed at length
• Longer than the document it covers

proper conventions (global deficiency = F)
• When bosses have to re-write your work = not
good!
