Recognizing different
organizing patterns of text:
 There are several ways to organize
sentences in a paragraph.
 Three well known ways are:
 1) Time order
 2) Order of Importance
 3)Spatial order
Time Order
 When you tell a story, you tell a story in
order of the events that occurred.

 You begin by telling what happened first


in the story. Then you tell what
happened second, third, and so on.
 What is the topic sentence?
 How are the supporting sentences
organized?
 What is the concluding sentence?

Order of Importance:
 Paragraphs often have sentences
arranged from order of most important
to least important or from least
important to most important.

Organizing Information by
Spatial organization:
 When you describe a place such as a room or a
park, you organize details according to their
location. This is called spatial order.

A starting point is chosen, then describe where


the things are located in relation to your starting
point. You must chose a logical method, for
example left to right, top to bottom, or front to
back.
