Key Points
• A rate is a special ratio that compares two different
kinds of numbers, such as kilometers per hour or
pesos per kilogram. It tells us how much of one thing
there is for every unit of another thing.
• Rates are everywhere around us, from shopping to
traveling. They help us compare different quantities
and make informed decisions. By understanding and
being able to calculate rates, we can solve real-world
problems effectively.

Brainstorm
Your teacher will assign you a partner. Assign one person to
be Person A and the other to be Person B. Person A creates a
problem about exchange rate. Give the exchange rate of any
currency and Philippine pesos. It can just be an estimate.
Write a problem about converting money in a foreign
currency to Philippine pesos. Person B creates a problem
about interest rate. Imagine that you are a bank manager.
Write a problem about finding the interest rate given the
principal, interest, and time of a customer deposit. Exchange
papers and solve for the amount in PhP or the interest rate.
Once both of you are done, present to one another your
solutions.
