Freedom of

the Human
Person
 Give at least one
example of your
personal choice in
LIFE
The importance of freedom, and
how it has provided us with various
rights.

What comes into your

mind, when you hear the
word FREEDOM?
Freedom
 The condition or right of being
able or allowed to do, say,
think, etc. whatever you want
to, without being controlled or
limited.
Freedom is an intrinsic and
essential property of the
person. This means that
the human person by
nature is a FREE BEING
and that it is in his or her
nature to seek wisdom."
 An important indication of
human freedom is the
ability to make choices
and perform actions. Our
freedom to act sets us
apart from other beings.
KINDS OF FREEDOM

 Physical freedom - refers to the absence of any

physical restraint. The person is free to move
wherever they go.
 Psychological freedom – also called FREEDOM
OF CHOICE. The person performs actions that he
considers right and wise.
 Moral Freedom - refers to as FREEDOM IN
MANNER that upholds human dignity and
goodness. The person is not an object of other’s
freedom.
TWO ELEMENTS OF FREEDOM

 VOLUNTARINESS - It refers to the ability

of a person to act out their free will and
self-determination.
EXAMPLE: A person deciding to donate
blood for a blood drive. This action is carried
out through their free will without external
pressure or coercion. They choose to act
based on their self-determination, motivated
by a desire to help others.
TWO ELEMENTS OF FREEDOM
 RESPONSIBILITY - It refers to the person being
accountable for their actions and consequences.
Example:
Studying for Exams:
•A student takes responsibility for their learning by preparing for
upcoming exams. They recognize that their performance reflects
their effort, and they hold themselves accountable for their success
or failure.

•Participating in Group Work:

•In a group project, each student is responsible for completing their
assigned tasks. If one student doesn't contribute, it affects the
entire group, and they must be accountable for their role and effort.
How can we
exercise our
freedom in a
responsible and
beneficial manner?
1.Human freedom should be exercised with
control and a recognition of reasonable limits.

 We set limits to our own freedom and learn to

moderate or control our thoughts, emotions, and
actions depending on the situation.

 Example:
You may have the freedom to pursue a
degree in medicine but, realizing that your parents
do not have the means to send you to medical
school, you decide to take a less expensive course.
2. Freedom should also be exercised
with regard for knowledge and truth.
 it is natural for us to think before we act.
Example:
Choosing Research Topics:
•A student has the freedom to select their own research topic for a
project. Instead of picking a random topic, they choose one they
can properly research, ensuring that they can provide accurate
information and contribute to the class discussion.

•Sharing Information on Social Media:

•A student is free to share articles or opinions on social media.
Before posting, they verify the facts and check the source’s
credibility, ensuring they do not spread misinformation or false
claims.
3. We should also recognize and
uphold not only our personal
freedom, but also the freedom of
others.
 Freedom should be exercised with
due regard for the welfare of other
persons and one’s freedom should be
exercised not as a tool to restrict the
freedom of others, but as a means to
enable others to fully enjoy their own
freedom.
Example:
•Classroom Discussions:
•A student actively participates in class discussions but
listens respectfully when others are speaking. They don’t
interrupt or dismiss others’ opinions, ensuring everyone’s
voice is heard and valued, allowing for a more balanced
exchange of ideas.

•Respecting Personal Space:

•A student has the freedom to engage with classmates but
respects personal boundaries by not pressuring others to
participate in activities they’re uncomfortable with. By
recognizing others' preferences, they ensure that their
freedom doesn’t infringe on the comfort and freedom of
others.
