Ppt Pr1 Unit 2 Lesson 1

The document outlines the characteristics, strengths, and weaknesses of qualitative research, emphasizing its focus on natural inquiry and the importance of researcher immersion. It highlights the flexibility of research design and the use of inductive analysis to derive findings from observed themes. While qualitative research provides detailed insights, it faces challenges in generalizability and neutrality.

GOOD

MORNING,
RESEARCHERS!
PRACTICAL RESEARCH 1
Mr. Earl Marvin Batan

ATTENDANC
E
LEARNING
OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the lesson, the learners will be able to:

• Describe the
characteristics of
qualitative research.
• Discuss the strengths
and weaknesses of
qualitative research.
What is the first
word that comes to
your mind if
someone says
“QUALITATIVE
RESEARCH”?
CHARACTERISTIC
S OF
QUALITATIVE
RESEARCH
It is important for
researchers to
understand the nature
of qualitative research
and consider its
characteristics in
constructing research
design, data collection,
and data analysis.
NATURAL INQUIRY
Qualitative research is a
form of natural inquiry
because it focuses on
studying its subject in a
natural setting. It is like
documenting people in
real-life.
UTILIZE INDUCTIVE
ANALYSIS
Inductive analysis is a
qualitative approach that
allows primary research
findings to be derived
from the most dominant
and significant themes
being observed in
society.
UTILIZE HOLISTIC
APPROACH
Holistic approach
focuses on the the
entirety of the system.
It assumes that the
whole system is better
compared to the the
sum of its parts.
REQUIRES PERSONAL
IMMERSION
The researcher is
required to become
part of the observed
group in order to
acquire more in-depth
data for the research.
OBJECTIVE
The results of the
research must not be
affected by the
perception or
personal experiences
of the researcher.
EMPATHIC
NEUTRALITY
The researcher
must be keen on
observing neutrality
in compiling
findings from the
study.
FLEXIBLE RESEARCH
DESIGN
Researchers may
continue to
conducting research
on new objectives or
questions that
emerged during the
research process.
QUALITATIVE DATA
Qualitative data
refers to the detailed
documentation and
description of certain
events or
phenomenon being
observed.
STRENGTHS AND
WEAKNESSES OF
QUALITATIVE
RESEARCH
STRENGTHS
• It utilizes qualitative data that
complements quantitative data.
• Results are based on observations in a
natural setting.
• It has detailed information to explain
complex issues.
• It can utilize multiple methods for
gathering data on sensitive subjects.
• Data collection is cost-efficient.
WEAKNESSES
• The conclusion cannot be
generalized to the entire
population since it utilizes a
limited number of sample sizes.
• Qualitative data can be more
difficult to analyze because of
nonuniformity in the observed
data.
WEAKNESSES
• Complete neutrality to avoid bias is
hard to achieve. Most of the time, data
can be affected by the researcher’s
opinion and personal experiences.
• Results can be unpredictable since
changes in objectives can happen
based on the flow of the research
process.
• Data collection is usually time-
Qualitative research is
a highly effective
approach in answering
‘how’ and ‘why’
questions of things.
