I. Introduction
Teaching 9th graders (specializing in English) to write essays, especially when they
lack prior experience, presents a lot of challenges. At this level, students typically
have a solid grasp of grammar, vocabulary, and basic sentence structure, but they
often struggle to organize their thoughts and ideas cohesively in essay form. Essay
writing requires a mix of skills including argumentation, critical thinking, and
coherence, which students may not have developed in earlier stages of language
learning. The focus of this paper is to explore effective ways for guiding these
students through the foundational stages of essay writing, with an emphasis on the
format, language use and some topics they discuss in the curriculum. Through these
methods, these students can gradually build the skills needed to express their ideas
more fluently and with greater precision, preparing them for higher levels of academic
writing and critical thinking. They can apply these skills in writing essays in the test
paper of the entrance exam to the gifted school.
