Series 3 - Improved capabilities,
new hardware and features
Enhanced Productivity Mode (EPM)
160 color pages per minute

An innovative technology that delivers high

quality color printing using 3 colors (CMY).

Superior HP Indigo technology and color

capabilities are key enablers for the exceptional
print quality of Enhanced Productivity Mode.

Increases color printing speed by 33%.

Overall 15% lower click charge per page,

pushing the breakeven point even higher.
Enhanced
Color pages with high coverage and fonts larger
Productivity than
Mode 7 points are ideal candidates for Enhanced
Productivity Mode.

Enhanced Productivity Mode is less relevant for

rich black printing, sharp white characters on a
dark background, high contrast images, and
small characters.
Enhanced Productivity Mode (EPM)
Higher ink coverage with a loss of ~10% of the color gamut.

Ink coverage is higher

CMY inks compensate
for the missing black

Compared to
CMYK,
Enhanced
Productivity
Mode involves a
loss of about
10% of the
color gamut.
NOTE: The EPM will be taught in depth later in the course.

Special Effects
New special effects offer
outstanding printing capabilities.

Textured effects – creates patterns directly

on the substrate using a digitally created
mold.

Raised print – raises the surface of the ink

above the image level using transparent ink.
With raised print, every page can be
different.

High Value Digital watermarks – creates a translucent

effect on the printed sheet.
Applications
Light black – enhances black and white
images, enabling low cost high-end
monochrome applications.
NOTE: Special Effects will be taught in depth later in the course.
Linked Activities
• Some activities on the linked activities
press require a icon
pre-determined
sequence of
calibrations
• When Linked activities
are activated, and the
press is functioning
optimally, the relevant
calibrations are
performed
automatically, and the
operator does not
need to initiate these
individual calibrations.
• Linked activities
ensure optimal print
quality, save time, and
reduce human errors.
23
Inline Scanner (ILS)
• TheInline Scanner (ILS) is
located after the exit conveyor
• The ILS scans the printed
image, and compares it to the
digital image
• The compared data is used for:
• Automatic diagnostics (detects print
quality issues)
• Automatic compensation and
calibration
• Remote support
Inline Scanner (ILS)
• Inline Scanner features:
– Auto Alert Agent (inspection)
– Smart Scan – scans the jobs for remote
support
– Smart Calibration - automated
calibration:
• 1st transfer
• BID engage
• Image placement
• Buckle calibration
• Simplex-duplex alignment (Front-to-back)
• Color uniformity
• Color Plane Registration
NOTE: The ILS will be taught in depth later in the course.
Ceramic inline densitometer (ILD)
• ILD calibration uses black and white ceramic tiles to improve
color calibration accuracy by improving the ILD measurement
accuracy.
• Enables automatic ILD calibration while printing:
– Automatic calibration to ILD without operator intervention.
– Removes the human error factor from ILD calibration.
• Enables initiation of manual calibration.
• Ceramic ILD unit is mounted on exit conveyor.
– ILD stays in same location.
• Prerequisites:
– Hardware kit
– Optional for HP Indigo 7500 Digital Press

NOTE: The Ceramic ILD will be taught in depth

later in the course.

New oil-gear lubrication system
Changes:
• Lubrication material changed from Dupont Krytox GPL227 to FAG OpenGear
3000.
• Grease-oil pump changed from FAG champion to FAG FP403.
• Support items: brackets, tubing, connectors.
• Lubrication at both sides of press: rear – drive gears, front – GDU in 2 places.

Benefits:
• Cost reduction: Dupont grease costs $400 versus FAG OpenGear cost of $55.
• Clean system: no splashing, no accumulated grease chunks.
• User friendly system: efficient indications (empty, failure, troubleshooting),
grease tank replacement interval of 2 years or longer.
• Robust design: Isopar resistance, heavy-duty parts.
• Splash-free and clean environment.

Routine maintenance:
The software requests routine maintenance every 500,000 impressions.
Use the lubrication maintenance wizard.
