ORAL COMMUNICATION
ORAL TEXT
 are often intended as signs of written texts
or literature. These are types of
communication text used orally in any given
communication. The oral text is performed
and verbally transmitted using arts and
language. Performances of various oral texts
provide, education, socialization, recreation
and identity in a group or community
VARIOUS TYPES OF
LITERARY ORAL TEXTS
1. PROVERBS – usually a short
saying, that express truth, offers a
guide to good conduct and warns
against foolish acts.
Examples: Proverbs 16:3
2.POETRY – is another way to animate the
word in metric form
Examples: Shakespeare’s poem

3. SONG – is characterized by a highest degree


of musicality. Lyrics and notes become
meaningful when they are sung.
Examples: songs with various genre
4. RIDDLE – is a question in a form of a statement or
even a one-word hint for a brainteaser to be identified
by the listeners.
Examples: What has a neck but no head? Answer: a
bottle

5.ORAL NARRATIVE – can be in a form of myth(gods


and goddesses), legend(story of renowned figures),
fable(story lead by animals, and fantasy (story of
supernatural beings)
Examples: short stories
KINDS FORMAL ORAL TEXTS
1. ADVERTISEMENT – is a form of communication
that uses sound to promote a product, service, or
idea to a target audience
Examples: products, services, job openings

2. ANNOUNCEMENTS – is a public statement that


conveys information about something that has
happened or will happen
Examples: reminders on airport, terminal, bus
station, classroom or school events
3. COMMERCIAL – refers to any spoken message
that is intended to promote a product, service, or
brand etc.
Examples: TV and radio commercial

4. CONVERSATION – is a spoken exchange of ideas,


opinions, feelings, or information between two or
more people
Examples: casual or formal exchange of messages
between friends, family, lovers
5. DISCUSSION – refers to the act of talking about a
topic with other people, where individuals actively share
their ideas, opinions, and perspectives etc.
Examples: panel discussion, group discussion

6. INSTRUCTIONS – refers to information or


directions given verbally, meaning spoken words used
to explain how to do something.
Examples: geographical directions, test instructions,
procedures or steps in an experiment
7. INTERVIEW – a structured conversation where one
person (the interviewer) asks questions to another
person (the interviewee) to gather information.
Examples: job applicant interview, crime suspect
interview, TV host interview

8. INVITATION – the act of inviting someone to go to


an event
Examples: invitation to a party, for interrogations, or
to be a resource speaker
9.PROPOSAL – refers to a spoken
presentation or pitch where an individual
or group presents an idea, plan, or
suggestion to an audience, aiming to
persuade them to accept or support the
proposed action, often by outlining its
benefits and addressing potential
concerns

Examples: project and business proposal


10. ORAL REPORTS – is a speech that
conveys information verbally to an
audience. Oral reports can be formal or
informal, and can be used in academic
settings or professional meetings.

Examples: academic reports, investigative


reports, news report, TV/radio report
