demo teaching 1

The document outlines a demo teaching lesson plan for mathematics focused on permutations, including group activities and problem-solving exercises. It introduces key concepts and formulas related to permutations, provides examples, and includes various problems for students to solve. The lesson aims to engage students through cooperative learning and practical applications of mathematical principles.

Guide Questions:

a.How did you analysed the possible

arrangement for each given
letters in a cards?
b.What formula or method did you
used?
Lesson
A permutation of n objects taken r at a
time is an arrangement of the n objects in
a specific order. The symbol for this
number is P (n, r).
• It is the arrangement of all parts of a set
of objects with proper order.
• We calculate the different permutations by
applying the formula as what you’ve
learned on your first lesson.
Remember:
•Rule #1:
The number of
permutations of “n” object
taken all at once is denoted
by nPn and defined as nPn
= n!
•Rule #2:
number of permutations of n
distinct objects taken r at a
time is defined as
nPr = (n, r) =
Examples:
1.Ten runners join the race. In
how many possible ways can
they be arranged as first,
second, and third place?
Solution:
P (n, r) =
P (10, 3) = =
P (10, 3) =
P (10, 3) =
P (10, 3) = 720 ways
Example:
2. In how many ways
can Aling Rosing
arrange 6 different
potted plants in a row?
Solution:
2. P (6, 6) = 6!
720 ways
Example:
3. How many ways can the
letters of the word CANON be
arranged?
Solution:
= = 60
Activity:
• For this activity, the class will be divided into 3 groups.
And there will be 5 set of problems involving permutation
of n objects taken r at a time. You have to solve this
problem in 3 different ways, using the formula of
permutation, calculator, and GeoGebra application. You
have 10 minutes to finish the tasks. Each group will need
to choose one representative for each set of problem to
answer, and you have to pick one piece of paper inside
this box for you to know of which 3 ways that you are
going to use in solving the given problems.
Solve the following problems:
1.In how many different ways can a
president, vice president, a secretary
and a treasurer be chosen from a
class of 15 students?
2.A pianist plans to play eight pieces at
a recital. In how many ways can he
arrange these pieces in the program?
Solutions:
1. In how many different ways can a president, vice president, a
secretary and a treasurer be chosen from a class of 15 students?

Given : n= 15, r= 4

= = = 32, 720 ways

Solutions:
2. A pianist plans to play eight pieces at a recital. In how many
ways can he arrange these pieces in the program?

Given : n= 8, r= 8

= = 8! = 8 . 7 . 6 . 5 . 4 . 3 . 2 . 1! = 40,
320 ways
3. Five persons are to be seated in a 10-seater AUV.
In how many ways can they be seated?

Given : n= 10, r= 5

= = = 30, 240 ways

• 4. How many distinguishable permutations are
possible with all the letters of the word
STATISTICS?

Given : n= 10, S=3, T=3, I=2

= = = = 5, 040 ways.
5. If there are 10 applicants for teacher 1 and only 6 items are available. In how
many ways can they be selected?

Given : n= 20, r= 10

= = = 151, 200 ways

Evaluation:
1.How many distinguishable permutations are possible
with all the letters of the word MATHEMATICS?
2. Find the number of arrangement of the six letters in
the word “SAFETY”.
a. taken two at a time?
b. taken three at a time?
c. taken four at a time?

3. Ten hospitals are in need of nurses. If there are four

qualified applicants, how many ways can they be
assigned?
