CHAPTER 1

Introduction to Emerging Technologies

 It is a term used to describe a new technology, but
Emerging it may also refer to the continuing development of
Technology an existing technology.
Progression
of
Technologie
s
 Biometrics is the measurement of the unique
physical characteristics such as finger prints, facial
and iris recognition.

Biometrics  Biometrics is used in homes and offices to provide

access to specific individuals only.
 It is used to verify an individual’s identity in high
security places such as airports etc.
 Computer Aided Translations is a software used by
Computer translators to translate verbal and written words

Assisted to another language.

Translations
 It is a code designed to be used, modified, and
distributed by public.

Open  Linux

Source  Mozilla Firefox

 Cost effective
Software  Offers great flexibility, reliability, and collaboration
to its users.
 It is a branch of technology that deals with
physical robots.
 It is a merger of engineering, technology, and
computer science.
 Involves design, construction, operation, and use

Robotics of robots.
 Goal is to design machines that can help and
assist humans.
 Help with diving deep in the oceans to gather data
about oil spills, helping out in disaster struck
areas.
 Robot is a machine that can do a task on its own
without the help of a person.
 It interact with the physical world via sensors and

Robot actuators.
 They are programmable.
 They are usually autonomous or semi-
autonomous.
 Preprogrammed Robots operates in a controlled

Preprogram environment where they do simple and

monotonous tasks.
med Robots  Mechanical Arm
 They look like or mimic human behavior.
Humanoid  They perform human like activities.
Robots  Design to look like real people, with expressions.
 They operate independently of human operators.
 Designed to carry out tasks in open environment.
 Work without human supervision.

Autonomous  Use sensors to perceive the world around them.

 Mars Rover is an autonomous robot used to collect
Robots data using its sensors and cameras from the mars
planet.
 Hospitality robots, autonomous lawn movers,
small robots cars.
 They are semi-autonomous robots that use a
wireless network to enable human control from a
Tele safe distance.

operated  They work in extreme geographical conditions.

Robots  Human controlled air drones carrying carton box

for delivery.
 They wither enhance current human capabilities or
Augmented replace the capabilities a human may have lost.

robots  Robotic prosthetic arms

 It is a branch of computer science that aims to
create an intelligent system.
 The ability of a machine to think and learn without
any explicit programming is known as artificial
intelligence.
Artificial  They learn with experience and perform human

Intelligence like tasks.

 It is an intelligent entity created by humans.
 It reduces human error.
 They are much more reliable and efficient in the
way they work.
 It is trained to understand how a human car work.

Self-Driving  They have AI based system that uses past data to

Cars learn and then perform the same task without

human interaction.
 It is a process of making three dimensional
physical solid objects from a digital file.
 It is achieved using additive process.
 In additive process an object is created by laying

3D printing down successive layers of material until the object

is created.
 Each of these layers can be seen a s thinly sliced
cross-section of the object.
 It is done by using 3D printing devices or printers.
 It is an artificial environment that is created with
software and presented to the user in such a way
that the user suspends belief and accepts it as a
real environment.

Virtual  It is experienced through sight and sound.

Reality  It utilizes a VR headset or VR googles.

 Wrap-around display screens.
 Haptics devices that let you feel the display
images.
 It combines the physical world with the virtual
world by superimposing computer-generated
images or animations into a real-world
Augmented environment.

reality  It is a perfect blend of the digital world and the

physical elements to create an artificial
environment.
 AcrossAir, PokemonGo etc.
 It is a three dimensional image generated using
photographic projection.
 It is truly 3D and free standing image.
3D  It does not require special glasses to view.
holograms  Used for product presentations.
 It enables seemingly real objects or animations to
appear to float completely freely in space.
 Ports are connection points between the computer
and external devices.
I/O Ports  Internal ports connects the system’s motherboard
e.g. hard disk, internal Bluetooth etc.
 There are different types of ports:
 USB port: Universal Serial Bus transfers digital data
over USB cables.
 Type C Port: transfers both digital data and power on
a single cable.
 HDMI Port: high Definition Multimedia Interface is a
connector cable for transmitting high quality and
high bandwidth streams of audio and video between

Types of devices.
 SATA (Serial Advanced Multimedia Interface) is an
Ports interface used to connect host bus adaptors to mass
storage devices such as hard disks drives and optical
drivers.
 PCI express port A (PCIe) or (PCI) express slot is the
point of connection between your PCs peripheral
components and the motherboard. It is an expansion
slot.
 Those are devices that connect to the core
computing unit through several I/O interfaces.
 Types of peripherals: input, output, and storage
Peripherals devices.

of a  Keyboards, mouse, webcam, are examples of

computer peripherals.
 They are used to enter information and
system instructions into a computer for storage or
processing and to deliver the processes data to a
human operator or a machine.
 Q.1 Explain artificial intelligence in detail.
