MATHEMATICS
Time!
FIRST
Objective
s:At the end of the period, the
learner must be able to:
1. perform multiplication and
division of integers; and
2. apply the concept of
multiplication and division of
integers in real-life.
MULTIPLICATION
of
INTEGERS
Observe how each pair of integers are multiplied.
SAME SIGN OPPOSITE SIGNS
3 x (12) = 36 3 x (-12) = -36
-3 x (-12) = 36 -3 x (12) = -36
-5 x (-8) = 40 -5 x (8) = -40
-8 x (-5) = 40 8 x (-5) = -40
5 x (8) = 40 12 x (-2) = -24
-16 x (-3) = 48 -16 x (3) = -48
MULTIPLICATION OF INTEGERS

 Multiply the absolute values of the

integers.
 If the two integers have the SAME
SIGN, the product is POSITIVE.
 If the two integers have DIFFERENT
SIGNS, the product is NEGATIVE.
EXAMPLE # 1:
60
15 x 4 = ?
Multiply the absolute |15| = 15 & |4| = 4
values of the integers. 15 x 4 = 60

(Same Sign) Thus, the final

The product is positive. answer is +60
or 60.
EXAMPLE # 2:
15 x = ? 60
Multiply the absolute |-15| = 15 & |-4| = 4
values of the integers. 15 x 4 = 60

(Same Sign) Thus, the final

The product is positive. answer is +60
or 60.
EXAMPLE # 3:
15 x = ? 60
Multiply the absolute |15| = 15 & |-4| = 4
values of the integers. 15 x 4 = 60
(Opposite Signs)
Prefix the “negative sign” Thus, the final
in the product. answer is 60.
EXAMPLE # 4:
15 x = ? 60
Multiply the absolute |-15| = 15 & |4| = 4
values of the integers. 15 x 4 = 60
(Opposite Signs)
Prefix the “negative sign” Thus, the final
in the product. answer is 60.
MORE EXAMPLES:
5 ×20=𝟏𝟎𝟎 − 8 ×−5=𝟒𝟎
14 × 4=𝟓𝟔 −5 × −11=𝟓𝟓
−6 ×5=−𝟑𝟎 1 0 ×− 6=−𝟔𝟎
− 4 × 12=− 𝟒𝟖 14 × −5=−𝟕𝟎

-14 x (-3) x (-1) = ?
When three or more
integers are to be
multiplied, we can

multiply two at a time

or apply these:
-14 x (-3) x (-1) =
42 x (-1) =
42
OR
-14 x (-3) x (-1) = 42
Multiply their absolute values
14 x 3 x 1 = 42
Then, count the number of negative integers
There are 3 negative integers, and 3 is an odd number.
Thus, the final
answer is:

42
15 x (-2) x (-5) x (4) =
-30 x (-20) =
600
OR
15 x (-2) x (-5) x (4) =𝟔𝟎𝟎
Multiply their absolute values
15 x 2 x 5 x 4 = 600
Then, count the number of negative integers
There are 2 negative integers, and 2 is an even number.
Thus, the final
answer is:

𝟔𝟎𝟎
DIVISION
of
INTEGERS
DIVISION OF INTEGERS

 Divide the absolute values of the

integers.
 If the two integers have the SAME
SIGN, the quotient is POSITIVE.
 If the two integers have DIFFERENT
SIGNS, the quotient is NEGATIVE.
The rules are the
same for
multiplying and
dividing
integers!
EXAMPLE # 1:
28 4 = ?7
Divide the absolute |28| = 28 & |4| = 4
values of the integers. 28 4 = 7

(Same Sign) Thus, the final

The quotient is positive. answer is +7 or
7.
EXAMPLE # 2:
-110 -11 = ? 10
Divide the absolute |-110| = 110 & |-11| = 11
values of the integers. 110 11 = 10

(Same Sign) Thus, the final

The quotient is positive. answer is +10
or 10.
EXAMPLE # 3:
80 -16 = ? -5
Divide the absolute |80| = 80 & |-16| = 16
values of the integers. 80 16 = 5

(Different Signs) Thus, the final

The quotient is negative.
answer is -5.
EXAMPLE # 4:
-45 5 = ?-9
Divide the absolute |-45| = 45 & |5| = 5
values of the integers. 45 5 = 9

(Different Signs) Thus, the final

The quotient is negative.
answer is -9.

80 ÷ 8=𝟏𝟎 −50 ÷ − 25=𝟐
−60 ÷ 5=− 𝟏𝟐 1 00 ÷ −5=−𝟐𝟎
