1. INTRODUCTION
1. Special concrete and mortars are advanced materials designed to meet specific needs in
construction.
2. Unlike regular concrete and mortar, these types are modified to offer enhanced strength,

2.1 LIGHT WEIGHT CONCRETE
1. Lightweight concrete is made using lightweight aggregates, resulting in a lower density
compared to normal concrete, ( Typically weighing between 1400 to 1900 kg/m³)
2. Because of its lower weight, it reduces the overall load on structures
3. Ideal for high-rise buildings or bridges.
4. It offers better thermal insulation compared to regular concrete
5. Helping in energy efficiency by reducing heating and cooling costs.
6. Lightweight concrete has improved soundproofing properties, making it useful in buildings
where noise control is important.

2.2 HIGH STRENGTH CONCRETE
1. High-strength concrete has a compressive strength greater than 40 MPa (megapascals), often reaching 70
MPa or more.
2. Achieving high strength requires a low water-to-cement ratio, which increases the density and strength of the
concrete.
3. Due to its higher strength, it has better resistance to weathering, chemical attacks, and abrasion.
4. It often includes high-quality cement, aggregates, and admixtures (like superplasticizers) to ensure superior

2. Offering better resistance to environmental factors like freeze-thaw cycles, chemical attacks, and abrasion.
3. It is often more workable than regular concrete, making it easier to handle, place, and finish.
4. HPC offers both high strength and excellent flexibility, allowing it to handle higher loads while also resisting
5. The concrete has low permeability, making it resistant to water and harmful chemicals, which extends the

6. Due to its improved resistance to deterioration, HPC typically has a longer service life, reducing
7. HPC can be designed to use supplementary cementitious materials like fly ash, slag, or silica fume…
8. It is used in critical infrastructure such as bridges, tunnels, dams, and high-rise buildings, where strength,

2.4 FIBER REINFORCED CONCRETE
1. The addition of fibers improves the concrete's ability to resist cracking and enhances its toughness.
2. FRC has improved resistance to impact, fatigue, and wear, making it more durable in harsh environments.
3. The fibers help distribute stress evenly throughout the concrete, increasing its ability to resist bending and
flexural loads.
4. The fibers enhance the concrete’s ability to withstand impact forces and abrasions, which is valuable in

2.5 POLYMER MODIFIED CONCRETE
• Polymer-modified concrete (PMC) is a type of concrete that
incorporates polymers to enhance its properties.
• polymers are typically added in the form of a latex or liquid resin that
interacts with the concrete mix.
