Task B: Transformer efficiency

1) Calculate the current drawn from the power supply when the current in the
secondary circuit is 0.40 A.

2) Calculate the current drawn from the power supply when two more lamps are
connected, in parallel, to the secondary circuit and the secondary current
increases to 1.20 A.

Task C: Transformer calculations

Answer the following questions, showing all of your working out.

1) There are 88 turns on the primary coil of a transformer that has a p.d. of 12 V
across it. How many turns are needed on the secondary coil for it to have a p.d. of 66
V across it?

2) A transformer for a laptop changes mains p.d. into the 19.5 V supply that it needs.
How many turns are needed on the secondary coil, if there are 4600 turns on the
primary coil?

3) The laptop in question (2) supplies a current of 3.33 A to the laptop. How much
current does the transformer draw from the mains supply?
