SOUND
Let’s Discover
-Sounds add more variety
and excitement to our
programs! Most of the
sound commands are in the
Sound palette.
Sound Insertion
-To insert sound into a
sprite, click a sprite
and go to the Sounds
tab.
Sound Insertion
-There are 9 sound blocks in the
Sound palette. Some of these
blocks are the start sound, play
sound until done, change volume
by, set volume by % and stop all
sounds.

-In the older version of
Scratch, instrument
blocks were included in
the Sound palette.
Sound Insertion
-These blocks now put under the
Music Extension in the latest
version of Scratch (3.0). This was
done for the convenient of new
Scratchers, or users of Scratch.
Sound Insertion
-If we want to add the
Music Extension, we
do the following steps:
1.
Click the Add
Extension found under
the list of palettes.
2.
When the extension
appears, click Music.
The Music palette will
be added to your list
Sound Composition

-Scratch enables
us to compose and
make our sounds.
Sound Composition
-Let us insert a Guitar sprite
and any background of our
choice. In the example
below stage 1 backdrop is
used.
Sound Composition
-In composing sounds, it
is important that we first
set the instruments that
we would like to use.
Sound Composition
-Next, we set the
tempo (how fast or
how slow in beats per
minute).
Sound Composition
-In putting notes will be easy as
Scratch provides a mini piano
for us to click the desired note.
Afterward we input the duration
of each sound.
Activity 1 (Explore Sounds)

Do the following in a new


Scratch program.
1. Insert a drum, guitar,
and saxophone.

Drum and Guitar sprites are
clicked, they will play a
sound from the library.

sprite, composed a new
sound based on any of
your favorite tunes.
