DID YOU KNOW?
Soil is one of earth’s most precious resources. It provides
the support and nourishment that plants need in order to
grow. The three main types of soil are clay, sand and
loam (garden soil.
Sandy soil: is loose and easy to dig. Plants do not grow
well in sandy soil because it has few nutrients, it is light
and water drains through it easily.
. Loam/garden soil: is a mixture of clay, sand and humus.
Many plants grow well in this soil. It holds water and has
many nutrients for plants.
Clay soil: is heavy and does not allow water to drain
through it easily, it contains many nutrients which allow
plants to grow well.
EXPLO ● Compare your soil
RE samples.
● Examine the texture,
colour and size of
particles that make up
each sample.
●Note the similarities
and differences.
