Midterm Test Coverage: Everything I covered in Chapters 1, 2,3,4, and 5.

Mid-term will consist of two parts:

Long Questions (80 marks)
• Chapter 5 [Process Costing] is the most important chapter.
• Chapter 4 [Activity Based Costing] is next in line of importance.
• Chapter 3 [Simple Job Costing] is important for the basic knowledge. I may ask a separate
question, or I may incorporate the concepts in some other question.
• It is critical that you understand how direct costs are traced to a particular job.
• It is critical that you understand the concept and techniques of allocating overhead.
• It is critical that you understand the journal entries we learned in this chapter.
• Chapter 2 [building blocks]: I may ask an essay question. But this chapter is more important for
its basic knowledge [I can incorporate the concepts in this chapter into other questions].
• Chapter 1: No long question from Chapter 1.

Multiple Choice Questions (10 questions, 2 marks each)

• Multiple Choice Questions can come from any chapters: 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5. Look at the Midterm
practice questions [Quick Check questions] to get a sense of the type of questions to expect.
Resources that will help you prepare for the
test:
In descending order of importance
1. The lecture slides, in-class exercises, and your own notes from class. I
cover many things in depth that are only partially covered in the slides.
2. Tutorial presentation material and assignments
3. Midterm Test Additional Practice Questions (solutions are also
available).
4. The discussions from the ‘Q&A Forum with the Professor’ Some students may
ask question that you have. You can learn from my answers to them. The quality of this resource
entirely depends on the collective engagement of students.
5. The textbook. It certainly helps to read the book. [Optional]
6. Additional problems from Textbook (not necessary at all, and not
recommended. It will only waste time). If you want to solve problems in addition to the ones provided by Christina and me,
feel free to solve them and show your answers to Christina. If time permits, Christina will go over the solutions with you.
How to contact the Prof and the TA if you have
questions:
1. For assignment related questions: You should post your question in
the ‘Q&A Forum with the Professor’ (or send an email to Cliff)

2. For questions about lecture slide or in-class exercise: You should post
your question in the ‘Q&A Forum with the Professor’ (or send an
email to me)
Final Comments
If you can confidently tackle the in-class-exercise questions, if you are
comfortable solving the tutorial assignments, you are ALREADY in great
shape.

Attempt to solve the midterm practice questions given to you. Do NOT

just read the solutions.

Bring your University ID to the exam!!! Bring all the writing instruments
and calculators. Do NOT be late!!

Good Luck!
