AI-Powered Assistive Technologies for Individuals with

Disabilities
Proposed Solution:
We propose an AI-driven multi-assistive system that enhances accessibility for individuals with visual,
speech, and mobility impairments.
• AI-Based Screen Reader & Braille Translator: Uses OCR and Text-to-Speech (TTS) to convert
text from books, documents, and signboards into audio or Braille output for visually impaired
users.
• AI-Powered Speech Aid: Converts text or sign language (via camera) into synthesized speech,
enabling communication for individuals with speech impairments.
• Smart Wheelchair Navigation (Simulation-Based): Uses voice commands, gesture control, and
AI path planning (A Algorithm)* to assist people with mobility impairments in autonomous
navigation.
• Object & Environment Recognition: Uses computer vision (YOLO, OpenCV) to identify
obstacles, read text, and provide real-time audio feedback to help users understand their
surroundings.

What Problem Does It Solve?

• Visually Impaired Users: Converts text to speech or Braille, detects objects, and provides audio
feedback for navigation.
• Speech-Impaired Users: Converts text and gestures into speech, enabling better communication.
• Mobility-Impaired Users: AI-powered wheelchair navigation with voice and gesture control, ensuring
autonomous movement.
• Affordability & Accessibility: Works on low-cost devices (webcam/smartphone), unlike expensive
assistive hardware.
How Is It Innovative or Unique?
• Multi-Disability Assistance: Supports visual, speech, and mobility impairments in one system.
• AI-Driven Adaptive Communication: Converts text, gestures, and symbols into speech for real-time
interaction.
• No Extra Hardware Required: Uses only a webcam or smartphone camera, making assistive tech
more accessible.
• Scalable & Customizable: Can be enhanced with AR/VR, voice commands, and wearable integration
for future applications.
