Fundamentals
Design Thinking Process
Design :

Design is a problem-solving process

Process :

A series of actions or steps taken in

order to achieve a particular end
Design Thinking:
is a method designers use in ideation and development,
that also has applications elsewhere.

The method describes a human-centered, iterative design

process consisting of 5 steps:
1-Empathize
2-Define
3-Ideate
4-Prototype
5-Test
Design thinking is useful in tackling problems that are ill-
defined or unknown
01
Empathy
First step
Empathy
Noun
The ability to understand and share the feelings of
another.

Empathize
The first stage of the Design Thinking process demands
gaining an empathic understanding of the problem
you’re trying to solve, typically through some form of
user research.

Empathy is crucial because it allows you to set aside your

own assumptions about the world in order to gain insight
into users and their needs
02
define
second step
Define
During the Define stage of Design Thinking, you put together the
information you have created and gathered during the Empathize stage.

You analyze your observations and synthesize them in order

to define the
core problems
03
Ideate
third step
Ideate

The process’s third stage finds you ready to start

generating ideas. With the knowledge you have
gathered in the first two phases, you can start to “think
outside the box” to identify new solutions to the problem
statement you’ve created, and you can start to look for
alternative ways of viewing the problem.
04
Prototype
forth step
Prototype
in the Prototype phase of Design Thinking, your design
team produce a number of inexpensive, scaled-down
versions of graphics designs so you can investigate the
problem solutions generated in the previous stage.
05
testing
fifth step
testing

In the Test phase of Design Thinking, you rigorously

test the completed product using the best
solutions identified during the prototyping
phase.

This is the final stage; however, in an iterative

process, the results generated during the testing
phase are what you will often use to redefine one or
more problems.

Process :
Graphic designers work to design products and
services for clients so that the targeted market will
clearly understand the message.

This understanding will result in a purchase/support,

which will benefit the client. As with any other project,
it is important to ensure proper flow of activities
and establish a process.

No matter what type of designer you are, you should

follow this graphic design process in order to achieve
the highest quality results for all projects that you

01
Creative brief
First step
Creative brief
A creative brief is a communication tool that outlines a
project's requirements, expectations, goals, and resources.

The importance of creative brief :

1-It helps ensure that all
stakeholders in a project are on the
same page from the start, which also helps the project To :
- run smoothly
- stay on schedule
- and be successful.
Creative brief

2-Creative Brief helps to understand the client’s goals, mission &

audience that is what will take your design to the next level.

3-The creative brief questions helps designers and clients get on the
same page about what they want & need out of the results of the
project.

02
Research
second step
Doing a little research about your project will help you through
the following

The importance of research :

1- give you valuable context for your design.
2- Guide you to think about how your design will be
3- determine the target audience and their characteristics.
4- spot common traits between brands in a particular
sector, Do they employ certain colors more frequently than
others? You’ll find that some industries will share design
traits in common that will help you choosing your style of
your design.
There are two types of research that can be helpful for
the designers to make the appropriate designs
depending on an accurate base of information:
A-Market research B-Customer research
is gathering and analyzing Research focuses on:
information about a particular understanding customer
product or service behaviors, needs, and
motivations to know the needs
Market research provides important of the customers and their
information to identify and analyze characteristics.
the market need, market size
and competition.

Conceptualizatio
n
third step
Conceptualization

Creative thinking is about making new ideas and

thinking outside the box , Graphic designers have
their own preferred ways of sourcing and compiling
inspiration.
If you like to have your inspiration in front of you while
you work, a mood board is the perfect inspiration
reference to have on hand. You can also make mind
mapping and brainstorming to help you think
outside the box and generate creative ideas .

04
Sketching
forth step
Sketching
Is the first step to visualize your ideas.

pick up a pencil and paper and start sketching.

create a few simple hand-drawn sketches of the piece's
layout you can make quick sketches of logo concepts,
line drawings of layouts showing where elements
will be placed on the page There's something
intrinsically creative about sketching by hand; when
you’re away from the screen you have no other
distractions, and your brain can really have the
freedom to wander and explore the ideas that pop
into your head.

05
Concept
Refinement
fifth step
It’s time to refine your designs, but don’t move back to
the computer just yet.

Take a fresh sheet of paper and redraw out the

designs by hand.
You might want to bring in colored pens or paints and
spend a little longer cultivating the details of the
designs.

Once you have refined sketches, you can digitize

them using the appropriate software

06
presentation
sixth step
Presentation
Now that you have refined your best options -
it’s time to show them to your client & impress
them with your design ,Utilize mockups, which will
help them visualize the overall result.

Don’t forget to include important themes from your

creative brief that helped lead you in the direction of
this
project.

This helps your client understand why you

made certain decisions

07
Final Review and
Edits
seventh step
Final Review and Edits
After presentation you will have some comments
and
feedback about your design you should follow the
brief to
make the modifications ,you can present the second
round of design to take the final approval

08
Final Delivery
Eighth step
Final Delivery

After your project has been approved, it’s time to deliver

the final design! As you wrap up your project, your goal
is to leave your client over the moon impressed
while preparing your work for future success.
Get creative and think of ways you can leave your client
feeling like they had an awesome experience.
A little progress
each day adds up
to big results
