1. Goa carnival
 The Goa carnival, is a vibrant and colorful festival
that takes place annually in the state of Goa, India.
 The carnival is unique to Goa and was introduced

by the Portuguese who ruled over Goa for over


four centuries.
 The carnival is celebrated for three days and night,

when the legendary king Momo take over the state


and the streets come alive with music and color.

bands, dances and floats out all night on the

2. Shigmo
 This festival is celebrates during springtime
and the celebration extend to five days. People
also call this festival as Shigmotsav.
 It is a traditional Goan Hindu celebration. The
festival is held in March and April.
 Shigmo is equivalent to how Holi is celebrated
in India. this Hindu festival is celebrated with
lot of enthusiasm.
 In this festival the people elaborate parades. it
consists of folk dance. it is celebrated in
various parts of Goa.
 Rice
CUISINE
with fish curry is the staple diet in goa.
 Goa cuisine is famous for its rich variety of fish

dishes cooked with elaborate recipes.


 Khatkhate is a very popular dish during the

celebrations.
 Sannas, hitt, are variants of idlli.

 Polle, amboli, and kailoleo are variants of dosa.

 The most popular alcoholic beverage in goa is

feni.
 Cashew feni is made from the fermentation of the

fruit the cashew tree, while coconut feni is made


from the sap of toddy palms. Goa also has a rich

Goa Darshan
Goa darshan painting is one of the
famous painting of goa. It was painted by
Chandrakant kerkar. He was an eminent
painter. This painting has six meter long

DANCES
1. Dhalo
 Dhalo is a popular ritual folk dance from
goa. The dance is performed by women and
serves as a prayer of protection for their
households.
 It is the prominent dances of Goa performed
by the womenfolk. It is held mainly during
the month of “Pausha”
 The songs to which the dance is performed
are usually sung in Konkani language or
Marathi.

MONUMENTS
Basilica of bom Jesus
 The Basilica of Bom Jesus is a Catholic basilica located in
Goa, in the Konkan region of India. The iconic church is
a pilgrimage centre and recognized by UNESCO as a
World Heritage Site. The basilica is located in Old Goa, the
former capital of Portuguese India, and holds
the Construction work on the church began in 1594 , but still
no one was able to put a cross upon the church. The church
was consecrated in May 1605 by the archbishop, Dom Fr.
Aleixo de Menezes. This world heritage monument has
emerged as a landmark in the history of Christianity. It
contains the body of St. Francis Xavier, a very close friend of
St. Ignatius Loyola with whom he founded the
Society of Jesus (the Jesuits). The church is one of the oldest
in Goa and in India. The floor is of marble inlaid with precious
