The document provides an overview of deciles, which are score points that divide a distribution into ten equal parts. It includes definitions, formulas for calculating deciles, and examples of how to find deciles for ungrouped data. Additionally, it emphasizes the practical applications of deciles in analyzing data, such as understanding customer spending and student performance.

WHAT IS
DECILE?
What is Decile?

Deciles are the nine score

points which divide a
distribution into ten equal
parts. They are deciles and
are denoted as D1 , D2 , D3 ,
D4 .., D9.

They are computed in

TIME TO REMEMBER
• Before finding a decile, organize
your data. The formula to find the
position of the kth decile is Dk =
k/10(n+1), where 'k' represents
the decile you're looking for (1-9)
and 'n' is the number of data

You want to see how your students' scores
are distributed. You can use deciles to
divide the students into 10 groups based
on their performance. The top decile (D9)
would represent the top 10% of the class,
while the bottom decile (D1) would
represent the bottom 10%. This
