Aditya L1 is India's first space mission to study the Sun, launched on September 2, 2023. It will be positioned in a halo orbit around the Lagrange point 1 (L1) approximately 1.5 million km from Earth after 125 days. The mission aims to investigate solar atmospheric dynamics, heating mechanisms, and the particle environment of the Sun.

Aditya L1

About it
• Aditya L1 shall be the first space based Indian mission to study the Sun.

• Aditya L1 launched in September 2 nd 2023 in 11:50 A.M

• Aditya L1 will reach it’s place or possession after 125 days of launch.

• The spacecraft shall be placed in a halo orbit around the Lagrange point 1 (L1) of the Sun-Earth system, which is about
1.5 million km from the Earth.

L1
Science Objectives:
● Study of Solar upper atmospheric (chromosphere and corona) dynamics.
 A chromosphere is the second layer of a star's atmosphere, located above the photosphere and below the solar transition
region and corona.
 The photosphere is a star's outer shell
● Study of chromospheric and coronal heating, physics of the partially ionized
plasma, initiation of the coronal mass ejections, and flares
● Observe the in-situ particle and plasma environment providing data for the
study of particle dynamics from the Sun.
● Physics of solar corona and its heating mechanism.
● Diagnostics of the coronal and coronal loops plasma: Temperature, velocity
and density.
● Physics of solar corona and its heating mechanism.
● Diagnostics of the coronal and coronal loops plasma: Temperature, velocity
and density.
● Magnetic field topology and magnetic field measurements in the solar corona

The study of sun is called Helioseismology
