OUTPUT UNIT

What is an Output Unit?

•The Output Unit is made up of output devices attached to a
computer.
•It converts the information generated by the CPU (central
processing unit) into a form humans can understand (like text,
images, sound, or physical copies).
•They present the processed data from the computer to the user.
•Output can be visual (you can see it), audio (you can hear it), or
physical (like a printout).
Common Output Devices
Device Description

Monitor The most common output device. Shows

(VDU/VDT) visual output like text, images, videos.

Produce hard copies like printed

documents and photos.

Speakers Output audio like music, voice, alarms.

Display visual output onto a large

screen for bigger audiences.

Monitor as Input and Output
Device:
•Primary Role: A monitor is mainly an output device
because it displays data (text, videos, images) after
processing by the CPU.
•Special Cases: Some monitors today (like touchscreen
monitors) also allow input—you can touch the screen to
interact with the computer.
•Hence, modern monitors are both input and output
devices.
PIXEL

•Pixel = Picture Element.

•It is the smallest part of a digital
image displayed on a screen.
Enhancing your presentation
•Many pixels together form the images,
videos, or text you see on the monitor.

ASSIGNMENT

Assertion (A): A laser printer uses a toner to print documents.

Reason (R): Toner is a liquid ink used in laser printers.
(Options: A. Both A and R are correct and R is the correct explanation of A, B.
Both A and R are correct but R is not the correct explanation of A, C. A is
correct but R is incorrect, D. A is incorrect but R is correct)
Assertion (A):
True.
A laser printer does use toner to print documents.

Reason (R):
False.
Toner is NOT a liquid ink. It is a dry powder made of tiny particles of plastic and pigment.
