Geosync and Sunsync

The document provides an overview of satellite types and orbits, focusing on geosynchronous and polar sun-synchronous satellites. It explains the characteristics and functions of geosynchronous satellites, which orbit the Earth in sync with its rotation, and polar sun-synchronous satellites, which maintain a consistent angle with the sun. The presentation also outlines the differences between these satellite types and their respective advantages.

What is a geosynchronous satellite ?

A geosynchronous satellite is a type of satellite

that orbits the Earth at the same rate that the
GEOSYNCHR Earth rotates—once every 24 hours. This means
that the satellite returns to the same position in
ONOUS the sky at the same time each day.

S AT E L L I T E Characteristics of geosynchronous satellite

• Orbital period: 24 hours (same as Earth’s rotation).

•Altitude: Approximately 35,786 km (22,236 miles) above
the Earth's equator.

•Orbit type: Can be inclined, elliptical, or circular.

What are polar sun synchronous satellite orbit?

Sun synchronous orbit (SSO)is a particular type of polar orbit
in which the satellite are in sync with the sun.

Characteristics of the SSS

Flies at an altitude between 600 to800 km travels at a speed
of 7.5kmps

Moves north to south direction.

Revisit time :24hrs

Advantages of the sun synchronous satellites

The earths rotational movement cause the satellite swath to
cover more area every time.

It covers the whole globe after one cycle of orbit.
