Lecture 6 - Pre Project Activities
What?
Define the Project:
Identify basic goals: e.g. Establish Literacy
Centres in Gaborone Primary Schools
Determine who your stakeholders are:
Ministry of Education
Teachers
Students
Community/parents
Identify Your Interests
Note: Consider your personal interests & passions - a topic that
genuinely fascinates you will keep you motivated throughout
the project.
Pre-Project Activities
How?
Have a group of student and staff volunteers meet up
Draft a plan
Assign roles - Gives roles and assignments to team
members
Map out a schedule - Schedule meetings with the
team to track project progress
Look for sponsors
Project communication: Select communications method
Note: Conduct Background Research
Research existing literature, and general info related
to your area of interest. You need to understand the
current state of knowledge and identify gaps or areas
where further action or research is needed.

Step 1: Identify the project.

Develop 21st century competencies.
Incorporation of the 4Cs
Engage students in in-depth inquiry.
Organize tasks around a driving question.
Establish a need to know.
Encourage voice and choice.
Incorporate critique and revision.
Include a public audience.
Research / gather information
Brainstorm Ideas
Brainstorm a list of potential topics based on your interests
and the gaps you’ve identified - just generate ideas.
Narrow Down Your Options
Evaluate each potential topic based on criteria such as
feasibility, relevance, novelty, and complexity. Eliminate
topics that are too broad, too simple, or too difficult to pursue
within your resources and timeframe.
Formulate A Hypothesis/working plan
Using the chosen topic develop a clear and testable
hypothesis/plan. A well-defined hypothesis will guide your
investigations.
Consider Resources
Assess the availability of resources, materials, and equipment
needed for your project. Ensure that you can access what you
need to carry out your project effectively.
