What is a test blueprint?
What information do we need to create a test?
What content to cover? Which outcomes to cover?
Which formats of items? How many marks?
How much duration? How many sections?
Will there be choices? How many Items?
What distribution of What distribution of
competencies? difficulty level?
Blueprint is the table of specifications that:
• summarizes the structure of a test.
• determines how the test will be designed.

What is the purpose of a test blueprint?

Define the parameters of a test way before construction

Allow item writers to create a test as per predefined parameters

Provide a checklist for reviewing and refining a test

Help teachers evaluate whether their classroom practices cater to the

content and cognitive demands of the blueprint

Maintains consistency in the test design so that the purpose of the

test is met.
Points to consider while making a test blueprint

A fair and balanced representation of competencies

Coverage of a wide range of difficulty

Inclusion of concepts that are central to the aspect of

learning in focus

Fairness in terms of length and time duration

Balance of item formats

What is the assessment Item?
?
Does an Item mean a question?

• An assessment item is a broader term that has many components

used to evaluate a learner's performance. For example, an item may
include options, an answer key, a scoring guide, rubrics, etc.
