POLLUTION

Pollution is the presence of harmful


substances in the environment—like
air, water, or land—that can hurt
people, animals, and plants.
Different Kinds of Pollution
• Air Pollution – Dirty air caused by
smoke, gas, and chemicals.
• Water Pollution – Dirty water from
factories, trash, or sewage.
• Land Pollution – Garbage and waste
damaging the soil.
• Noise Pollution – Too much noise
from traffic, machines, or loud music.
• Light Pollution – Too much artificial
light that affects sleep and nature.
• Thermal Pollution – Hot water or
air released from factories harms the
environment.
How to Address Pollution?
• Plant more trees 🌳
• Use public transportation or walk $
• Don’t burn garbage 🔥🚫
• Proper waste segregation
(biodegradable and non-biodegradable)
• Follow environmental laws
Environmental Laws in the
Philippines
1. Republic Act No. 8749 – Philippine
Clean Air Act of 1999
Purpose: To ensure the protection of air
quality.
Regulates emission standards for vehicles
and industries.
2. Republic Act No. 9275 –
Philippine Clean Water Act of 2004
Purpose: To protect the country's
water bodies from pollution. Regulates
the discharge of wastewater from
industries and households.
3. Republic Act No. 9003 –
Ecological Solid Waste Management
Act of 2000
Purpose: To implement proper waste
segregation and disposal. Promotes
recycling and composting. Prohibits
open dumping and burning of solid
waste.
4. Republic Act No. 7586 – National
Integrated Protected Areas System
(NIPAS) Act of 1992(Amended by
RA 11038 – E-NIPAS Act of 2018)
Purpose: To protect and manage
ecologically important areas. Declares
certain areas as protected (forests,
mountains, marine sanctuaries).
5. Republic Act No. 7942 – Philippine
Mining Act of 1995
Purpose: To regulate mining operations
and ensure responsible mining. Requires
Environmental Compliance Certificates
(ECC). Ensures rehabilitation of mined
areas. Shares revenue with local
government units and indigenous peoples.
6. Republic Act No. 9729 – Climate
Change Act of 2009
Purpose: To develop a national
strategy for climate change adaptation
and mitigation. Created the Climate
Change Commission. Integrates climate
change policies into local government
plans.
7. Republic Act No. 10654 –
Fisheries Code (Amending RA 8550)
Purpose: To manage and protect the
country’s fishery and aquatic resources.
Bans illegal and destructive fishing
practices. Supports marine
conservation and sustainable fishing.
