PROBLEM
STATEMENT
Many individuals, especially young adults and students,
struggle with emotional stress, anxiety, or isolation but
hesitate to express their feelings due to fear of
judgment, social stigma, or the lack of a non-
judgmental space.
There is a clear gap between the emotional support
people need and the platforms available to them —
especially platforms that offer empathy without
pressure or exposure.

EMPATHY DATA – The Voices We
Heard
📊 Key Statistics:
Our Google Form survey participated by 80+ students revealed that
🔹 72% of respondents often feel the need to express themselves but don’t know whom to turn to.
🔹 68% feel judged or misunderstood when they try to open up.
🔹 61% said they would prefer talking to a stranger rather than someone they know.
•1 in 7 Indians aged 15–24 experience depression or anxiety (WHO, 2022).
•Over 56 million Indians suffer from depression, and 38 million from anxiety disorders
(WHO Global Burden of Disease Study).
•According to a National Mental Health Survey:
“Only 10-12% of those affected by mental health issues actively seek help.”

Direct Interview Insights:

"Sometimes, I don’t want advice. I just want someone to listen."
"Talking to strangers feels easier — they don’t know my story and won’t use it against me."
"It’s not that help isn’t available, it’s that reaching it feels emotionally exhausting."

🌍 Relevance to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):

•SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being – Emphasizes mental well-being as a core health priority.

DEFINING NEEDS – Uncovering the Layers of
Emotional Support

conversation, instant emotional
support, and a safe outlet for
venting.

2. Secondary Needs: Anonymity,

natural conversations, and
empathetic listeners.

3. Latent Needs: Emotional

that hold space.
Point of View Statement (POV):

A young adult who feels emotionally overwhelmed and isolated needs a safe, non-
judgmental space to express their feelings anonymously, because past experiences of
being misunderstood or judged have made them suppress their emotions and fear opening
up again. They are not necessarily looking for solutions, but rather for someone who will
genuinely listen, validate their emotions, and make them feel seen and heard. The insight is
that emotional well-being is not just about therapy—it’s also about human connection without
pressure, and the ability to feel understood without revealing identity.

Ideation Method Used: SCAMPER
Substitute:
Replaced face-to-face therapy with anonymous virtual chats to reduce stigma and
improve accessibility.
Combine:
Integrated peer support and professional therapy in one platform, offering users
flexibility in the type of help they receive.
Adapt:
Used a swiping system to match users with the right listener or therapist based on
their needs and mood.
Modify:
Transformed the traditional therapy interface into a more casual, non-clinical chat-
based design to create a comforting and approachable environment.
Put to Another Use:
Utilized emotional journaling prompts for self-reflection and as a tool for users to
better understand their emotional patterns.
Eliminate:
Removed the requirement for users to disclose personal identities or mental health
diagnoses, eliminating barriers to seeking help.
Rearrange:
Empowered users by allowing them to choose between peer listeners and
therapists, giving them control over the type of support they want.
“The goal was to make emotional help feel just a click away—without fear, labels, or stigma.”
