Coffee is a globally popular beverage made from the roasted seeds of coffee plants, primarily grown in the 'Bean Belt' region. The cultivation process involves growing, harvesting, and processing coffee cherries, with methods ranging from selective hand-picking to mechanical harvesting. The manufacturing of soluble coffee granules involves several steps, including roasting and grinding the beans.

COFEE WHAT IS IT MADE FROM? Coffee, beverage brewed from the roasted and ground seeds of the tropical evergreen coffee plants of African origin. Coffee is one of the three most popular beverages in the world (alongside water and tea) and one of the most profitable international commodities. WHERE IS IT GROWN AND WHY? Coffee is grown in many countries around the world, but the majority is produced in the "Bean Belt", a region that stretches from the Tropic of Cancer to the Tropic of Capricorn Central and South America Africa The Middle East and Southeast Asia Coffee plants, or Coffea, prefer warm temperatures, high humidity, and nutrient-rich soil. They also do well at high altitudes, often growing in mountainous areas HOW IS IT GROWN? Coffee is grown from the seeds of a coffee plant, which is a tropical shrub or small tree, where the "beans" are actually the seeds inside a fruit called a cherry that grows on the plant; these cherries are harvested when ripe, then processed to remove the outer layers, leaving the coffee beans ready to be roasted and ground for brewing; most coffee is grown in the "coffee belt" around the equator, with the main types being Arabica (considered higher quality) and Robusta (hardier and with more caffeine) which require specific climate conditions like shade and adequate rainfall to thrive. HOW IS IT HARVESTED OR COLLECTED? Coffee is harvested using a variety of methods, including: Selective harvesting A traditional, ecological method where workers manually
pick only ripe coffee cherries by hand. Unripe cherries are
left on the tree to be harvested later. This method is more expensive and time-consuming, but it's used to collect the best Arabica coffees. Stripping Also known as pulling, this method involves picking the
entire branch of the coffee plant, from the trunk to the
edge of the branch. This method is faster than hand- picking, but it's not as gentle on the plant and can include unripe and damaged fruit. Mechanical harvesting This method uses machines to comb the branches of the
coffee plant, causing the cherries to fall into a collection
HOW IS IT MANUFACTURED Making pure soluble coffee granules from coffee beans is a long process with seven main parts – growing the beans, harvesting them, roasting them, grinding, extraction and drying, which produces the 100% pure soluble pure soluble coffee granules you use to make your cup of NESCAFÉ.
