Design & Development of A Real Time Vehicle

This document describes the design and development of a real-time vehicle tracking system using GPS and GSM technologies. The system allows a vehicle owner to track their vehicle's location if it is stolen by sending an SMS or missed call from their mobile phone registered with the vehicle's GSM modem. The microcontroller in the vehicle then uses the onboard GPS receiver to determine the vehicle's location and relay that information to the owner via the GSM network. Key hardware components include a microcontroller, GSM modem, GPS receiver, and connecting cables. The system provides theft monitoring, security benefits, and potential for future enhancements.

ABSTRACT

This project deals with the design & development of a theft control system for an automobile, which is being used to control the theft of a vehicle. The developed system makes use of an embedded system based on Global System for Mobile communication (GSM) technology. The designed & developed system is installed in the vehicle.. Once, the vehicle is being stolen, the information is 3/21/12 being used by the vehicle owner for further

DESCRIPTION

The process of working of this project is explained as follows, this total equipment of this project placed in a vehicle. The authorized person details with mobile number and some predefined parameters are stored in the Microcontroller. Whenever we find that our vehicle is missing then simply send a SMS or a Missed-Call to GSM Modem from the authorized mobile after registering with the GSM modem. Then the Microcontroller gets the 3/21/12location of vehicle found by the GPS

AT89C51 MICROCONTROLLER

The AT89C51 is a low-power, high-performance CMOS 8-bit microcomputer with 4Kbytes of Flash programmable and erasable read only memory (PEROM).

The device is manufactured using Atmels high density nonvolatile memory technology . The on-chip Flash allows the program memory to be reprogrammed in-system or by a conventional nonvolatile memory programmer.

By combining a versatile 8-bit CPU with Flash on monolithic chip, the Atmel AT89C51 is a powerful microcontroller which provides a highly-flexible and cost-effective solution to many embedded control applications.

GSM MODEM

A GSM modem is a wireless modem that works with a GSM wireless network. A wireless modem behaves like a dial-up modem. The main difference between them is that a dial-up modem sends and receives data through a fixed telephone line while a wireless modem sends and receives data through radio waves.

GPS Receiver

GPS receivers takes the information and use triangulation to calculate the user's exact location. Essentially, the GPS receiver compares the time a signal was transmitted by a satellite with the time it was received. The time difference tells the GPS receiver how far away the satellite is. Now, with distance measurements from a few more satellites, the receiver can 3/21/12 determine the user's position and

Information being transferred between data processing equipment and peripherals is in the form of digital data which is transmitted in either a serial or parallel mode. Parallel communications are used mainly for connections between test instruments or computers and printers, while serial is often used between computers and other 3/21/12 peripherals. FUTURE SCOPE

This project could be made more convenient and secure with the use of satellite modems instead of cell phones as tracking device as the system may fail when there is no network coverage. This design can be made more enhanced in future to support camera, handset phone / hands free, mobile data LCD display, web based tracking software, also PC 3/21/12 based stand alone software.
