What is computer network?

A computer network is a set of


computers connected together for
the purpose of sharing resources.
The most common resource shared
today is connection to the internet.
Other shared resources can include a
printer or a file server. The internet
itself can be considered a computer
network.

The full form of LAN
is local area network.
It is a computer
network that
interconnects
computers within a
limited area such as
residence, school,
laboratory, university
campus or office
building. By contrast,
a wide area network
not only covers a
large geographic
distance ,but also
generally involves
leased
telecommunication
circuits.
PAN
The full form of
PAN is personal
area network. They
are short range
wireless networks
that work over a
range of tens of
metres. PANs main
role is to eliminate
cables that connect
devices to
peripherals. Typical
PAN technologies
include: cordless
products – such s
mouse devices and
keyboards, that are
use radio or
infrared.
WAN
The full form of
WAN is wide area
network. It is a
large network of
information that is
not tied to a single
location. WANs can
facilitate
communication,
the sharing of
information and
much more
between devices
from around the
world through a
WAN provider
MAN
The full form of
MAN is
metropolitan area
network. It is a
high-speed
communications
network that
covers a
geographical area
as large as a small
city. MANs provide
the networking
infrastructure that
is needed to
support
internetworking
within a
metropolitan area
and to interface
VPN
The full form of
VPN is virtual
private network. It
extends a private
network across a
public network and
enables uses to
send and receive
data across shared
or public network
as if their
computing devices
were directly
connected to
private network.
