What is Cholera?

• Cholera is a severe diarrheal disease


caused by Vibrio cholerae bacteria.
• It spreads through contaminated food and
water.

• It can cause dehydration and death if not


Causes and Spread of Cholera

• Drinking contaminated water

• Eating contaminated food

• Poor sanitation and hygiene

• Open defecation

• Flooding and poor drainage systems


Signs and Symptoms of Cholera

• Profuse watery diarrhea (rice-water stool)

• Severe dehydration

• Vomiting
• Rapid heart rate

• Dry skin and sunken eyes


How Cholera Spreads

• Drinking unclean water

• Eating contaminated food

• Poor hand hygiene

• Contaminated household items

• Flies spreading bacteria


How to Prevent Cholera

• Drink only treated or boiled water

• Wash hands with soap and clean water

• Cook food thoroughly and eat it hot

• Use proper sanitation – avoid open
