INTRODUCTION

• The rain tracker automotive rain sensor,


senses rain fall on the windshield, and
automatically starts the wipers with suitable
speed.
• We don’t have to take our hands and
constantly adjust the speed of the wipers as
the intensity of rainfall changes.
Working of rain sensor
• A rain sensor or rain switch is a switching device activated by rainfall.
• In this the sensor projects infrared light into the windshield at a 45-
degree angle.
Rain sensor working condition:
• When the windshield is dry.
• When the windshield is wet.
Block diagram

 The sensor is fixed to the vehicle mirror.


 The battery supplies the power to the sensor.
 Predefined value will be fixed in the control unit based on the
rainfall intensity,actual value will be compared with predefined
value based on difference of the two value the speed of wiper is
determined.
Advantages

•Less power consumption.


•Hands free calling.
•Automatic braking.
•High accuracy.
•Sensor cost is low.
Disadvantages

•Additional cost is required in case


optical sensor is used.
•This system is applied in the case of
water falling on the glass only.
Applications

• Rain sensing wipers are great convenience in


a luxury car.
• It is used in aircraft.
• More useful in ships.
