PRESENTATION OF

COMMUNICATION AND
EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY
TOPIC: DEMONSTRATION METHOD OF
TEACHING
WHAT IS
DEMONSTRATION?
THE WORD DEMONSTRATION
MEANS TO GIVE DEMOS OR TO
PERFORM THE PARTICULAR
ACTIVITY OR CONCEPT.

“DEMONSTRATION IS A METHOD
OF TEACHING BY EXHIBITION
AND EXPLANATION OR
DEMONSTRATION METHOD OF
TEACHING
 Demonstration method is a teaching
method used to communicate an idea
with the aid of visuals such as :
FLIP CARDS,POSTERS,POWERPOINT,etc.
 The demonstration method teaches by
‘exhibition and explanation’.It trains and
explains the art of careful observation
which is essential for a good nurse.
TECHNIQUES OF
DEMONSTRATION

1. PLANNING 2.
PERFORMING

3.EVALUATION
1.PLANNING

The teacher plans the

demonstration beforehand.She
prepares
 Articles and steps of demonstration
 learning environment
 Steps of demonstration
 Rehearsals to attain proficiency in
doing the procedure
 Student participation
2.PERFORMING

During performing following steps

should be used:
 The teacher should proceed from
whole to parts
 Explain about each article in relation
to its
definition,use,purpose,disadvantages
,etc.
 Each step should be understandable
by the students and explain scientific
3. EVALUATION

 The teacher should evaluate her

teaching to ensure that student
have learned the skill
appropriately.
 This can be done by asking
questions from the students to
assess their learning and
comparing the steps of procedure
with the planned set criteria of
procedure.
AIMS OF DEMONSTRATION
METHOD
 To demonstrate experiments and use
of experimental equipments in the
laboratory,classroom and ward
 To teach the patient a procedure to
carry out at home
 To achieve psychomotor and
cognitive domain
 To enhance the learning of a student
ADVANTAGES OF
DEMONSTRATION
 Can be presented to a large group
 Highly effective
 Involves various senses that makes
learning permanent
 Increases leadership and self
confidence of the demonstrator
 Helps to achieve psychomotor
objectives
DISADVANTAGES OF
DEMONSTRATION METHOD

 All the topics related to various subjects

cant be demonstrated
 Requires special classroom arrangements
 Requires careful preparation and
observation
 Time consuming
 Teacher who do not have mastery of skill
can not demonstrate the procedure
 If not demonstrated properly,it may lead to
wastage of time and energy of students
GUIDELINES FOR EFFECTIVE USE OF
DEMONSTRATION METHOD

 During the lesson, the teacher must mark where

is the need and scope for demonstration.
 The teacher should have an advanced rehearsal
of the demonstration before actually doing it in
the class
 There must be definite objectives to be achieved
through the use of this method
 The teacher should keep in mind the ‘principle of
integration theory with practice’.
 Every step should be made clear to the students
in reference to basic questions like why, what and
how.
 The students should be given proper
freedom to put questions which
should be clearly responded by the
teacher
 Every demonstration should have a
proper evaluation session
 The students should be an active
partener in demonstration process
instead of remaining mere observers
 There should be no interupption in
the teaching for any student
CONCLUSION

 THE DEMONSTRATION METHOD IS

BASED ON THE PRINCIPLE OF
“LEARNING BY DOING”
 IT IS USEFUL IN DEMONSTRATING
SCIENTIFIC
EXPERIMENTS,PROCEDURES AND
APPLICATION OF EQUIPMENT.
