Concept of Vehicle
Dashboard
• The dashboard or dashboard instrument panel is a control panel set within the
central console of a vehicle.
• Usually located directly ahead of the driver,
• It displays the instruments and controls for various functions of the vehicle.
That is, the car dashboard is one part of the car interior that is usually placed at
the car’s front. It hosts various indicator panels of each part of the car and
additionally becomes a divider between the front of the car and the driver.
Types of Vehicle
Dashboards
Dashboards can be divided into
three types:

• whereas a Digital (or electronic) display shows numbers.
• A special program is used on the panel.
• All data is displayed on a single screen.
• It is made up of some display units-
(e.g., LED- Light Emitting Diode, LCD- Liquid
Crystal Display, VFD- Vacuum Fluorescent Display,
DCEL- DC Electroluminescence.)

digital electronic panel board (microelectronic) and an
analog instrument panel board (electro-mechanical).
Because nowadays Manufacturers mostly prefer making
dashboards with a combination of both Analog and Digital.
(e.g., In many cases, Speedometer (Analog)-
odometer (Digital) combinations.)

This option is considered more modern than the electronic panel.
i.
• A software-controlled display panel conveys information from the vehicle's systems,
and associated devices, to the display panel.
• Digital instruments present data in the form of numeric parameters, textual messages,
or graphical gauges.
This panel has its advantages:
i. Great information content;
ii. Beautiful appearance, the developers are trying to make the design as bright as
possible;
iii. Individual settings, the driver can choose the appearance, color scheme, and more;
iv. Interaction with the driver.

The odometer shows how many miles a car has traveled in its lifetime.
Basically, an odometer will indicate the total distance covered by the vehicle till the time
of taking the reading.
But this is more than just a little piece of information that can help vehicle maintenance.
Besides knowing how much km/miles has vehicle run on the road, one can also out when
to service the vehicle.

The fuel gauge shows how much fuel remains in the car's tank.
It shows how much fuel has left in fuel tank.
Must have a certain amount of fuel to keep the fuel pump lubricated every time.
This helps in cooling the fuel pump.
It is always recommended to maintain the fuel level at least 25%-30% of the tank volume.

This gauge will let know whether the engine’s coolant is cold or hot or at a normal
operating temperature range (1950 F-2200 F).
The displayed data is fetched from the coolant temperature sensor (or thermistor) that sits
at the thermostat housing.
A digital temperature gauge can show the exact data.

The oil pressure gauge works as a monitor, and its job is to see the oil pressure
in the main oilways near the filter and the pump.
The engine block has a tapping and either an oil pipe or a sensor screwed into
it.
